November USDA Distribution Dates
Firewood Available at Two
Sam Creek Units
The Sam Creek #2 and Sam Creek
#3 firewood units, located about eight
miles from Siletz, are open once again for
tribal member firewood cutting. The
available wood is a mixture of conifer and
hardwood located in decks at seven land
ings in two recently logged units.
Permits are required and may be
obtained at the Tribal Natural Resources
office in the administration building in
Siletz from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on week
days. Maps and directions also are avail
able at the same location.
Permits will be issued only to tribal
members, who will need to show their
tribal ID card and provide the license
number of the vehicle they will use to haul
the wood.
Out-of-the-Siletz-area woodcutters
can call the number below to have a per
mit mailed to them. The permits are for

tribal member woodcutting for personal
use only. This firewood may not be sold.
The person named on the permit must
be present when cutting and hauling
the firewood.
Tribal members wishing to cut wood
for tribal elders or disabled individuals
must present a signed note from the elder
or disabled person stating that the indi
vidual is authorized to cut firewood on
their behalf. The note must include the eld
er's or disabled person's tribal ID number.
Permits will be good for two weeks
and will allow up to two cords of wood
to be cut on each pennit. Each tribal mem
ber is allowed up to five cords total from
these two units.

It’s another busy time at USDA. In
the next several months, we will look at
moving to our new warehouse in the
Keizer area. Hopefully, the transition will
not be too traumatic for our clients.

Jaimee Crowe for letting me take my
TWEX worker, Alan Werder, to the Salem
distribution each month. He is a big help.
Also, thanks for placing Roger Rilatos
in the temp clerk position. The two work
very well together. Also to Cody Cole for

If you are a tribal member interested
in pursing your higher education dreams,
it’s imperative that you complete the FASFA
if you wish to receive funding from the
Siletz Tribe. Below are a few helpful tips
for completing the FAFSA process.

Deadlines for the
2005-2006 School Year
(July 1,2005 - June 30, 2006)

FAFSA on the Web, Renewal FAFSA
on the Web. and applications must be
submitted by midnight Central Day
light Time (CDT) on June 30, 2006.
Corrections on the Web forms must
be submitted by midnight CDT on
Sept. 15, 2006.
It’s important to note the type of dead
line you are facing. Ask your school about
its definition of an application deadline,
whether it’s the receipt date and time or
the process date and time of the application.
The Department of Education consid
ers an application’s receipt date and time
to be when the application/correction has
been successfully submitted. The last
page of the online application/correction
submission process is therefore called the
“confirmation page.” It contains a 22-
(if an application) or 30- (if a correction)
character long “confinnation number.’’
This number contains the exact date
and time (CST) the form was received. It’s
recommended you print this for your records.
Note: Transactions must be com
pleted and accepted by midnight to meet
the deadline. If transmissions are started
before midnight but are not completed
until after midnight, those transmissions
will not meet the deadline.
In addition, any transmission picked
up on the deadline date that gets rejected

may not be able to be reprocessed because
the deadline will have passed by the time
the user gets the information notifying
him/her of the rejection.

Get documents you need. Start with
your Social Security number, driver's
license, income tax return, bank state
ments, and investment records.
Print a Pre-Application Worksheet. See
a preview of the questions; dependent
students can use it to help parents
write in info at their convenience.
Plan how to sign your FAFSA. Elec
tronically with a PIN; mail in a signed
signature page; or mail in a signed copy
of your Student Aid Report (SAR).
Speed the process with your PIN.
Sign your FAFSA electronically.
Establish your eligibility. Citizens,
non-citizens; with a high school di
ploma or GED; states may use your
FAFSA to award additional aid from
their programs.
Note important deadlines. We must
receive your form no later than
June 30, 2006, midnight CDT, for
2005-2006 school year applications.
The 2004-2005 school year applica
tions must have been received by
June 30, 2005, midnight CDT, to
meet the Federal Student Financial
Aid deadline. These applications are
no longer available.
