LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
On behalf of the staff and patients
of the Samaritan North Lincoln Hospi
tal, I want to thank the Confederated
Tribes of Siletz Indians Council
members and members of the Chari
table Contributions Committee for
their generosity.
Over the last three years, we have
been granted more than $25,000 for
many different programs that help our
community. Through two of these grants,
we were able to provide children’s
health clinics that provided free health
screenings and immunizations to chil
dren in North Lincoln County. Parents
were also provided information to
enable them to get additional health
services for their children.
Another grant made it possible for
us to provide diabetes management
classes and test strips to newly diag
nosed diabetics to help them learn to
control their disease by controlling their
To the editor:
Have you ever made a mistake and
never knew that you made that mistake
until it was too late? Well, I saw my
mistake before it was too late and now
it is time to fix my mistake.
There is a young woman who has
stood beside me when no one else would,
someone who showed me true love, has
given me a son, given me her trust, and
Mary Robinson, will you accept
my undying love for you and become
my wife?
I will always love you, forever!
Love, Shaun Meyer

Some questions have arisen that
need to be addressed. The lodge is a
place of prayer. The sweat lodge area
is about the size of a family campsite.
Our sweats are conducted for healing.
The sweat is not meant to harm or of
fend anyone in any way.
Also, we have no problem in shar
ing with those in need spiritually and/
or those who would like to give thanks.
We pray that all can benefit by what
we call a way of life.
Finally, I would like to thank the
U.S. Forest Service, the Confederated
Tribes of Siletz Indians, CTSI Tribal
Council, CTSI Culture Committee,
neighboring Oregon Tribes, the com
munity, and last but not least, our Siletz
Tribal Elders. Without them, this could
not have been accomplished.
All my relations,
Arthur L. Butler
has given me her heart. I almost lost
her once to my stupidity and I plan on
never letting that happen again.

blood sugar. Other grants have helped
us provide prescription medications, lab
tests, and other services to emergency
room and hospital patients who could
not afford to pay for urgently needed
services.
In November, we received funding
to help purchase a new treadmill for our
physical rehabilitation department,
additional funding for our prescription
medication assistance and charity care
program, and funds to provide free
mammograms for uninsured, low-
income women during 2005.
We cannot thank you enough for all
the great work you make possible. Your
contributions help us literally save
people’s lives and improve their qual
ity of life. Thank you, thank you,
thank you!
Sincerely,
The Staff and Board Members of the
North Lincoln Hospital Foundation
To the editor:
In response to the article written
Dec. 8, 2004, by Ezra Casteel (The
News Guard, Lincoln City) regarding
the plans for building the sweat
lodge in the Cascade Head Scenic Area
titled Sweat Lodge Plans Start Moving
Forward.
First, I would like to thank the Great
Spirit for allowing me to share these few
words. History tells us the indigenous
people of this land have participated in
the Purification Lodge Ceremony, in
what is known today as the Sweat
Lodge Ceremony.
Historically, Native Peoples have
gathered here for ceremony since time
immemorial to include Neachesna,
Tillamook, Salase, Tututuni, Chetco,
and Calapuya to name a few. As direct
descendents, we feel it is our responsi
bility to pass on and continue the teach
ings of our ancestors to our families.
