LEITERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
I enjoy receiving Siletz News. Your
wide coverage of tribal activities and
issues makes it possible to stay informed.
Due to a very painful foot injury, I
had to postpone my visits to Siletz and
other places, but I plan to visit your
community and schools this fall.
Education funding is a serious chal
lenge facing the Oregon Legislature.
Our children deserve a place of top pri
ority on that agenda.
There needs to be an opportunity
for vocational and technical training in
agriculture, shop, welding, trades, and
computers. We must have accessible
and affordable ways for students who
want to go to college, also.
I look forward to learning about
Siletz schools and your students.
Sincerely,
Rep. Joanne Verger
Candidate for State Senate
Insurance companies want us to
think that doctors are leaving Oregon
to avoid paying high medical malprac
tice premiums, but I just read a study
by Public Citizen showing that the
number of doctors in Oregon is actu
ally increasing.
Measure 35 won’t help doctors, but
it will limit our rights by changing the
constitution. Votes should not be swayed
by the insurance industry’s slick cam
paign. Please join me in voting no on 35.

To the editor:
I would like to thank all the people
who prayed for me and sent me cards
when I had coronary artery disease,
infection of the sternum, ventilator-
acquired pneumonia, damaged rotator
cuff in my right shoulder, and a fractured
right arm.
The doctors and nurses told me that
I was a “miracle,” but I know that it was
the prayers that brought me out of these
illnesses and injuries. It was a very dif
ficult time.
1 would like to thank my mom for
being with me and visiting me when she
could and also thank my Aunt Joan and
her church for their prayers.
I also would like to thank Shannon
of Fitness Prescription, who did a dedi
cation at a diabetic conference for me.
Without your prayer, I would not be
here today.
I thank you, this from an old man
whose batteries are getting low in his
Timex. I will see some of you in heaven.
With respect,
William Stanley Strong

A special thank you goes out to Judy
Imbler and family for the wonderful

To the editor:
Hi, my name is Jennifer Chernoff.
I have started a community on the
Weblog site - livejoumal.com. It’s go
ing to be a great way for all people,
Native American and otherwise, to
communicate and learn.
I spoke to a Portland State Univer
sity student the other day who was a
Native filmographer and he expressed
his wishes to be able to have an easy
way to network with the Native Ameri
can community.
Please forward this to anyone who
you might think would be interested.
My hope is that this community can
obtain at least 100 people to join it.
Livejoumal is mostly used for per
sonal journals, but also many commu
nities can be created in order to join
people with similar interests to share
their stories, information, art, events,
etc. I would also like your input on the
community. The more ideas, the better
it will be.
Livejoumal is free to join and free
to use and join other communities. Here
is the address to “nativeamericans” -
http://www.livejournal.com/commu-
nity/nativeamericans/. You also can
go to livejournal.com and put
“nativeamericans” in the search bar and
keep “username” in the search option.
I hope to see you post there. Thank
you for your time.
