Trading at the River Conference
The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians Economic Development
Corporation (ATNI-EDC) and ONABEN - A Native American Business
Network are again collaborating to produce the Northwest Indian Country’s
premier Native American networking event.
The third annual Trading at the River Conference is set for Oct. 27-28,
2004, at the Embassy Suites Hotel Portland Airport, 7900 NE 82nd Ave. in
Portland, Ore.
Modeled after traditional gatherings, Trading at the River brings together
old ways and new opportunities. This two-day conference offers workshops
and roundtables on substantial business issues and enables Native American
entrepreneurs and tribal enterprises to form new business relationships/
partnerships and meet others who have developed worthy business strategies.
ATNI-EDC will present the first day of the conference by bringing tribal
leaders and enterprise managers together to explore ways to create economic
synergy among tribal enterprises, government, and the private sector.
ONABEN will present the second day and will focus on how to grow the
Native American private sector, emphasizing the exchange of information,
contacts, and business opportunities among emerging and experienced business
owners, tribes, government, and the corporate community.
Bridging the two days of trading will be an art show evening reception
that will include traditional and contemporary storytelling and celebrate
traditional relationships, old and new.
A tradeshow, hosted by the Oregon Native American Chamber of
Commerce, will showcase Native American small businesses, tribal enterprises,
and conference sponsors.
ONABEN is a non-profit corporation created by Northwest Indian tribes to
increase the success of private businesses owned by Native Americans. It offers
training and support on developing entrepreneurship in Indian communities.
The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians - Economic Development
Corporation was created in 1996 as a non-profit subsidiary of ATNI. It works
with its member tribes on economic development issues.
