Golden Bear Video Celebrates
One-Year Anniversary
by Lisa Norton
George Siniscal, a graduate of the
Starting a Successful Business program
offered through the tribe, recently
celebrated the one-year anniversary of
Golden Bear Video.
Golden Bear Video is a video rental
business he co-owns with partner
Charles Boston in Lincoln City, Ore. It
originally opened in the Taft area on
March 12, 2003. In January 2004, they
decided to move farther north to a less-
expensive and better location.
Since then, George says business
has been booming. In fact, he’s opened
at least 200 new accounts in the short
time since the move. Further, March
was his best month ever. He says that it
took awhile to start making a profit, but
now that he is, things couldn’t be better.
When asked why he chose to go
into business for himself, George said
he’d been thinking about it for a long
time. After he retired, the opportunity
arose and he figured, “Why not?”
According to George, “It's been a lot
of fun.”
It’s obvious that he enjoys the
business because when he’s not visiting
with customers, he can always be found
rearranging his store to make it look the
best he can. Further, he can tell from
memory where each video is located in
the store.
I had the opportunity to visit with
him at the store one day and he took
great pride in showing off his creation.

I asked him why he thought he was so
successful and he replied, “Small
business can succeed if the location is
right, if you have great customer
service, a good selection, and a good
value.” It’s obvious that George has just
those things.

from Iraq, where he served for 355 days.
He was honored at a ceremony March 16
at Fort Hood, Texas. He served in the Mili
tary Police, U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Division.
Abe is the son of Kenneth Staggs
and the grandson of Charles (Chuck)
Staggs and Gladys (Tom) Staggs.
We want to welcome Abe home and
tell him how much we appreciate his
giving one year of his life, time without
family and friends, leaving behind all
of those precious little daily events to
go into battle to secure our freedom. We
are proud of you, Abe, for your willingness
to fight for our country and freedom, that
same freedom we all enjoy as American
citizens.
Our prayers have been answered.
We can never express how proud we
are of you! Welcome home!

Garden of Eden
by Racheal Croucher
Right now, everyone in the world
could be relaxing in a paradise world.
There would be no worries or fears.
This paradise world is called the
Garden of Eden. We would all be happy
and content. We would not have to work
hard or feel pain.
One day many, many years ago,
The Lord God put Adam in the Garden
of Eden. God told Adam that he could
eat any of the fruit in the garden, except
the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge.
He also told Adam that if he ate the fruit,
he would die.
God created animals so Adam would
not be alone. God created a helper for
Adam. “I will call her Woman,” said
Adam. The woman’s name is Eve.
Of all the animals in the garden,
Snake is the most clever. He tricked
Adam and Eve into eating some of the
fruit from the Tree of Knowledge.
When God heard about the snake
tricking Adam and Eve into eating the
fruit, he punished the snake, Adam, and
Eve. Now women will have pain during
childbirth; men have to work hard for
their food.
Now life is difficult. We have to
work hard for food and we feel pain.
If there was one thing in the world
that I could change, it would have to be
Eve’s choice to eat the fruit. If Eve
wouldn’t have eaten the fruit, we would
all be living like kings in paradise.
When you ask somebody if they
could change one thing in the world,
most people would say “world peace”
or “end of homeless people.” In this
theory, if you changed Eve’s actions,
we would all truly live happily ever after.

This was evaluated and graded at
Toledo Middle School on ideas and
content, organization, word choice, voice,
sentence structure, and conventions
(the analytical trait scoring system).
Racheal earned straight 6s, the highest
score available.
