Tips on Scheduling Appointments
at Chemawa Health Center
The new system of making appoint
ments began in January with much
success and some difficulties as well.
The general consensus is that it’s a good
system with many improvements, but
still has problems for us to work through.
Here are some suggestions to help
you access the clinic and get your
appointments when you need them.
When you see your provider, be
sure to get a blue slip. Your provider
should complete it with his/her name,
request for the date of your next appoint
ment, how much time is needed, and
whether or not you need to fast. Bring
this slip to the clerk at the front desk.
The week before you should call for an
appointment, this form will be mailed
to you as a reminder.
Please call on the day you receive
this blue paper. Have it with you when
you call. The clerk will help you make
an appointment within the week. It’s not
necessary to call on the same day you
want to be seen if you've called when
you receive the notice.
The call line for urgent same-day
appointments opens at 7:45 a.m. If you
call just to tell us you received your blue
reminder slip, please call later in the day.
When you call for an appointment,
many calls could be coming in and you
might be put on hold. Do not hang up,
but remain on the line until the clerk
returns. This way, you don’t lose your
place in line. The clerk should be back in
only a few minutes. Be sure to call for an
appointment before your medication
runs out.
If you or a family member are ill
and need to be seen, please call us to
get an appointment. The clerk probably
will transfer you to a nurse. Please give
as much information about how you
feel or what you need to the nurse. As a
medical person, she’ll give you the
proper attention.
If you or a family member are not
ill when you call for an appointment,
the best days to get one are Tuesdays
(but not after a Monday holiday),
Thursdays, and Fridays. We’re usually
very busy every Monday and on Tues
days after holidays. On Wednesdays,
we're only open in the morning.
Note: The information above is
relevant to the Chemawa Health
Center in Salem, Ore. The Siletz
C linic has not changed the way it
schedules appointments.
