Get All Shook Up at The King’s
Birthday Bash
The memory of Elvis Presley lives
on at Chinook Winds Casino.
On Jan. 8, The King of rock-‘n’-
roll would have celebrated his 69th
birthday. In honor of this momentous
day, we’re treating all Winner’s Circle
members to an Elvis tribute concert
from The Great Pretender, Michael &
Blue Suede, on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. and 8
p.m., and Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Throughout this four-day celebra
tion, we’ll have a display of Elvis
memorabilia, a complimentary birthday
cake, and Elvis merchandise giveaways.
In addition to the showroom con
certs, everyone age 21 and over is invited
to see Michael’s Elvis Unplugged
tribute in the Rogue River Lounge in
the afternoons of Jan. 8 and Jan. 11.
Tickets for the Winner’s Circle con
certs are available after 10 a.m. on New
Year’s Day at the casino box office. They
will be given out on a first-come, first-
served basis; limit of two per person.
Rawls Returns with R&B Sound
Smooth, cool, classy, and three-time
Grammy-winning singer Lou Rawls
will perform at Chinook Winds Casino
on Jan. 16-17. Both shows are at 8 p.m.
and tickets ($ 15-$3O) are on sale now.
Rawls is known for crooning some
of the most definitive R&B music of
the ‘60s and ‘70s. Hits like Love is a
Hurtin Thing, Dead End Street, A Natural
Man, You’ll Never Find (Another Love
Like Mine), Groovy People, See You When
I Git There, Lady Love, and Let Me Be
Good To You have cemented him as one
of music history’s great song stylists.
It’s no wonder that Frank Sinatra
referred to Rawls’ voice as “the class
iest singing and silkiest chops in the
singing game.”

Renowned Wood Carver Featured
at Coastal Carvers Show and Sale
The 12th Annual Coastal Carvers
Show and Sale will be held at Chinook
Winds Casino on Jan. 17-18. This free
art show will house dozens of fine wood
carvers with their work on display for
enjoyment and purchase.
Demonstrations for children and
adult carvers will teach aspiring artists
as well as lovers of the art. For those
interested in taking up carving or
replenishing their carving tool sets,
supplies also will be available for sale.
Cleve Taylor, an accomplished
caricature wood carver, is the featured
artist of this year’s show. He’s published
several books on the subject and in
1995 was elected to become a member
of the elite Caricature Carvers of
America. The group has chosen only
25 members in 12 years.
A professor of adult education at
the University of Idaho, Taylor didn’t
start carving until 1986. He’s been
invited to the show by the Lincoln City
Carvers to coincide with this year’s
carving style, caricature.
The 12th Annual Coastal Carvers
Show and Sale is an all-ages event,
open to the public and free of charge.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 17
and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 18.
