    LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
On Nov. 15, 2003, at our 26,h
Restoration Pow-Wow, I retired from
my position as whipwoman.
I asked Shirley Ben Walker to be
my replacement and she gladly ac
cepted. She will do very well, as she
comes from a traditional Siletz Indian
family and grew up in Siletz carrying on
our customs and traditions just as I did.
It was indeed a pleasure and an
honor for me to serve in that capacity. I
met so many wonderful people over the
years and I enjoyed working with the
children and watching them grow.
I have numerous people to thank,
so I will just say thanks to all of you
and may God bless.
Sincerely,
Gladys M. Bolton
To the editor:
We would like to thank all of our
volunteers who have helped us make
this a dream come true.
For the month of September, we
had 74 volunteers and 150 hours.
For the month of October, we had
68 volunteers and 182 hours.
For the month of November, we had
73 volunteers and 125 hours.
We are very appreciative. We hope
you had a Merry Christmas and wish
you and your loved ones a prosperous
New Year!

To the editor:
My name is Alfred (Bud) Lane III
and I am a candidate for Tribal Council
in the upcoming election in February.
I was elected to the Tribal Council
20 years ago and served on the council
for seven years. During my tenure, I
served as vice chairman and on various
standing and ad-hoc committees.
My family and I have worked for
many years strengthening Siletz cultural
activities, such as the Feather Dance,
the construction of the Siletz Dance
House, basketry and regalia making,
and the Athabaskan language. I’m a
firm believer in keeping our traditions
strong and I am not afraid to confront
forces that may diminish those traditions,
no matter where they may come from.
I don’t believe in asking people to
do things that I’m unwilling to do
myself. I’ve worked hard my entire
adult life and I’m always willing to help
with whatever task is at hand.
I have a solid background and
experience in tribal government to deal
with the many issues confronting our
people today, such as housing, health
benefits, our treaty rights, helping our
elders, economic development, and
cultural traditions, to name a few.
We have accomplished a lot as a
people and if I am elected, I’ll work to
make those good things we have better.

To the editor:
Mickey and I would like to thank
everyone from CHS, my boss Shelley
Christensen and her family, Mickey’s
boss, Buster Lane and his family, Larry
and Vai Hibdon, and everyone else who
kept big Mickey and little Mickey in
their thoughts and prayers.
We have had a very trying time
and we really appreciate everyone’s
concerns. We are very grateful to Lisa
Taylor and nurse Debbie Shomaker for
going above and beyond the call of duty
and staying late and calling the hospital
every day to check on little Mickey. You
are my heroes!
Thanks go out to Kristi for making
sure that they could always fit little
Mickey in. A big huge thank you to Papa
Bill and Grandma Naomi Shadwick for
staying with the rest of the grandkids.
A big thank you to Chuvonne Metcalf
and the ESP staff for covering my job
during our family emergencies.
We would like to wish each and
every one of you and your family a very
Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy
New Year!
Sincerely,
Mickey and Denise Jordan and Gang
To the editor:
Running for Tribal Council, I put
myself out there early for all to see.
Months early.
Who am I? A wife, a mother, a
grandmother, a professional person who
is so ready for some creative changes.
What it boils down to is, (self).
When everyone goes away. The
hours are long. The work is piled high.
Does one who has been given the respon
sibility of representing the people in an
honorable, humble manner have the
tools and commitment?
As I look into the many faces of
those whom I will be serving, can I with
honesty, integrity, trust, profes
sionalism? Yes, I can.
Respectfully,
Eva E. Clayton
