Elders Run, Walk, and Ride
to the Rogue
by Kathryn Dick
Elder Council Meeting
Nov. 15,2003
Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center
2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Several elders took an active part
in Run to the Rogue by working along
the way and some even put in some
miles. Other elders rode vans and
caught up with the runners at Bullards
State Park, where lunch was provided.
It was an exciting time and the elders
enjoyed the sunshine and visited with
other participants.
From there, the elders headed to
Gold Beach, where we stayed at the
Motel 6. After checking in and a quick
rest, we went back to Port Orford for
dinner and music. The community of
Port Orford provided the dinner and
honored the Siletz Tribal members.
We got up early the next day, had
breakfast, and headed for Oak Flats. We
caught up with the runners before they
reached the end of the run. Some eiders
got out to walk and run to the finish.
After we arrived at Oak Flats, a
ceremony was held. We then gathered
and went to Singing Springs for dinner.
We did have an incident where the
big white elders’ van had a flat tire.
Luckily, it was just as we arrived at the
Singing Springs Resort.
A big thanks goes out to Stan
Werth, Public Works supervisor, for
taking charge and getting everything
repaired. Thanks also to Rosemary
Landis, her husband Gene, Stan, and
Pam for waiting with the elders while
all this was being done. They also
followed us back to the motel.
Our trip home was an enjoyable one
- walking on the beach, stopping at The
Mill Casino, then stopping for food and
ice cream. This was a real trip to remem
ber- another Run to the Rogue making
many memories for all who took part.
Wayne Case and Marie Chapman enjoy themselves at the luncheon.
Elders Attend Coeur d’Alene
Honor Day
by Kathryn Dick
Twelve elders attended the Coeur
d’Alene Elder Honor Day in Plummer,
Idaho. Elders from each area attended
the event, which was held at the Coeur
d’Alene Hotel and Casino.
It was a nice trip with wonderful
weather. The luncheon was really nice
with a musician who played during the
event. They welcomed the different tribes

and had door prizes. It was a good time
to visit with elders from other areas.
We came home on a different route
and it was really nice to see new areas.
Andrew Joseph, the Northwest repre
sentative, also was at the gathering and
talked about what has been happening
with NICOA. He announced the up
coming conference, which will be held
in Milwaukee, Wis., in August 2004.
