    LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
My name is George F. Siniscal and
I would like to let you know that I will
be running for a position on Tribal
Council in the upcoming 2004 election.
As most of you know, I was a
candidate in the 2003 election and that
I secured 155 votes. I would like to
secure at least double that number of
votes in the 2004 election.
During my campaign in 2003, I
voiced my opinion and strong support
of economic development. My feelings
have not changed in that area. I still feel
that the development of the land we
own is very, very important to us.
However, though it has nothing to
do with economic development, I
would like to say that the re-opening of
the Siletz Valley School was one of the
smartest and wisest moves the tribe has
made in some time. I feel that education
is one of the most important things we
can give our children. I can’t even begin
to express the heart-warm feelings I had
when I read about it in the newsletter.
Bravo to all of you who were
responsible for this gift to our children.
Before I close this letter, I would
like to remind all of you of the letter I
wrote several months ago. In that letter,
I stated that I would like to be the
people’s voice. If elected for Tribal
Council in 2004,1 would like to be your
voice so you can be heard.
Vote for George F. Siniscal in the
2004 Tribal Council election.
Speaks Out Loud,
George F. Siniscal
To the editor:
1 am writing to announce my
candidacy for the 2004 Tribal Council
elections. I have received encourage
ment from several tribal members to run
for Tribal Council this coming year.
If elected, I will strive to ensure that
the tribe adheres to the policies set for
ward by the tribe and that we take every
opportunity to respect and empower our
tribal members and the employees who
provide the day-to-day services. Studies
have shown that a positive healthy work
environment enhances employee
performance and promotes a healthy
staff/client relationship.
I do not believe that being told there
is no grievance policy is the right
answer to our tribal membership. It will
be incumbent that each tribal member
voice their concerns in a constructive
way and that the tribal administration
listen to these concerns.
If several tribal members voice the
same concern, this should be a warning
To the editor:
flag to our administration that there
is work for us to do to resolve these
problems. Staying on the same path and
not adapting our plan within the
confines of the program grant will
indicate a lack of accountability and that
we are not willing to take another look
and problem-solve these troubled areas.
I will also encourage a team
approach in working toward solutions.
We need to include line staff in the
process as they have the day-to-day
working knowledge. This will give us
a realistic picture and shortens the time
needed to solve problems. I do not
believe that one person has all of the
answers. I believe that if we wotk together,
we can come up with solutions to better
our tribal organization as a whole.
I appreciate any support or com
ments. You can reach me at my e-mail
address - lbgodfreyl@comcast.net.

I wanted to say thank you to all the
people who worked on the Run to the
Rogue preparing food, driving support
for the runners, shuttling the runners to
their miles and back to their vehicles;
Tami Miner and Tony Whitehead for
coordinating the miles 24 hours a day
so we wouldn’t have gaps (did you ever
get any sleep?); and all the runners who
gave up the time to come and keep the
staff moving.
Thank you to everyone who partic
ipated in the Feather Dance. They were
few but full of heart.
I also want to encourage everyone
to come participate next year, if only
for one mile. It’s worth it.
Sorry if I forgot anybody.
Respectfully,
Ml -
To the editor:
Look too hard and we can miss the
point. The point is separation isolates.
The importance of meetings,
gatherings should not be centered on
just business, but looked upon as a time
for socialization as well.
Misunderstanding, barriers can be
redefined through communication.
A relationship is a never-ending
work of art. We need to be sure the colors
we pass on are not dull narrow-minded

chips of paint, but an enlightened color
wheel of energy and imagination.
As I wrote in our Siletz News (June
issue) letters to the editor, I am running
for Tribal Council this year. I greatly
respect the position of Tribal Council.
As a qualified individual with many years
in banking and business, I will represent
our people in a prudent and professional
manner with integrity and respect.
Respectfully yours,
Eva E. Clayton
