Coastal Rhythm & Blues IV Returns
Chinook Winds Casino presents
Rhythm & Blues IV, a R&B concert and
dance, on Oct. 18. This will be a return
engagement for two well-known
Northwest bands and includes the
added presence of the great Mel Brown.
Patrick Lamb, Paul deLay, and
Mel Brown and their bands, all
celebrated musicians in the R&B
sphere, will each perform for 90
minutes. The concert will conclude with
a grand finale’ master jam session.
The Patrick Lamb Band features
Patrick Lamb on the sax. He has per
formed with and opened for such artists
as George Benson, B.B. King, Kenny
G., Wynton and Branford Marsalis, and
has played at the White House.
Paul deLay, considered one of the
finest blues harmonica players and
singer-songwriters, and his band are
well known in blues circles across the
nation. The Philadelphia Enquirer
recently printed, “For a bluesman, and
he’s a great one, Paul deLay has the
most infectiously bright spirit you’re
likely to hear... deLay doesn’t pull any
punches, and like the best blues, his
songs have the ring of truth that comes
from real-life experiences.”
This is Mel Brown’s first appear
ance at Chinook Winds.
Noted for his work with The
Supremes, The Temptations, Diana
Ross, Martha and The Vandellas, and
numerous jazz musicians, Brown has
firmly established himself as one of
America’s foremost drummers. He’s even
played with The Beatles - he’s the drum
mer on their release of My Sweet Lord.
Brown toured with Diana Ross
from 1979 to 1990. He gave his most
memorable concert when they played
at the Royal Albert Hall and the Queen
of England came to hear them.
Brown loves straight ahead main
stream jazz and has toured with Teddy
Edwards and Bill Watrous. He regularly
teams up with legendary jazz bassist
Leroy Vinnegar at Atwater’s Restaurant.
They have recorded a number of CDs,
including the remarkable Walkin' the
Basses in 1991.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the music
runs from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. A food
court and no-host bar, as well as non
alcoholic beverages, will be available.
Tickets are $ 15 for this event, which
is open to guests 21 and over.

Sharon Schommer won $36,922
when she hit the Wheel of Fortune®
quarters MegaJackpot™ at Chinook
Winds Casino on Sept. 1.
The winner, a homemaker from
Vancouver, Wash., said she was on
vacation but has “played this machine
before.” She added, “It’s a good
machine. I also heard someone had won
big before.”
Incredibly, Schommer had only
invested $15 when the jackpot hit. “It
just came from nowhere,” she said. The
winner also said that she “always
wanted to win and knew immediately”
that she had won the top prize.
This MegaJackpot™ is the second
jackpot awarded this year at Chinook
Winds. The first also was a Wheel of
Fortune® quarters MegaJackpot™ that
paid $240,568 on July 5. This is the 11lh
MegaJackpot™ to be awarded at the
casino since 1996, bringing Chinook
Winds' total 1GT payout to more than
$5.5 million since 1996.
Of the 11 MegaJackpots™ to be
awarded, six have been on the 25-cent
Wheel of Fortune® progressive system

Joe Gallison
Devoted followers of Days of Our
Lives have something special to look
forward to. Joe Gallison, a regular on
Days from 1974 to 1991, will be at
Chinook Winds from Oct. 23-26 to sign
autographs and pose for photos. Fans
can find Gallison in the casino lobby
from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 23-25
and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 26.
Gallison is most widely known to
millions of fans as Dr. Neil Curtis on
Days of Our Lives. On Oct. 16, 1991,
Curtis spoke his last words in the
University Hospital staff lounge, “I
have rounds to make ... many rounds.”
Gallison ad-libbed “many rounds”
as an inside joke that he wouldn’t be
back on the show. For fans, there never
was an explanation of where Dr.
Curtis disappeared to, but now fans can
see him again. Gallison lives in
Wilmington, N.C., where he’s become
a respected acting teacher and coach.
To celebrate Chinook Winds’
newest slots, patrons also can have their
photos taken with the Creature from the
Black Lagoon, Vanna White, and Kenny
Rogers look-alikes or other costumed
characters from Oct. 23-26.
On Oct. 26, Chinook Winds Casino
will give away $15,000 in a Mega-Slot
cash drawing. At noon and each hour
until 4 p.m., $1.000 will be given away
to one lucky person. At 5 p.m., a single
winner will receive $10,000. Winners
must be present.
