Cruising with S.T.Y.L.E. to Nashville
The S.T.Y.L.E. group that brought
you the “Smoking is a Colorful
Addiction” media campaign hosted two
workshops at the National Native
Conference on Tobacco Use on
Aug. 23-27 in Nashville, Tenn.

Jurado, Melissa Clawson, Carson Viles,
Nellie Carey, and CTSI employees

and DeAnna Pearl presented “Cruise
with S.T.Y.L.E! Youth Tobacco
Prevention Media Project” to more than
500 conference attendees.

Please remember that our youth are
the face of the future. We need to help
them carry the message of good health
by not abusing commercial tobacco and
highlight the traditional uses of tobacco
within their community.

Highway 101 and take part for as
long as they can. People can join
us in the evening and participate in
the relay for as long as possible
before returning home. Those who
help in this way are very much
appreciated by runners who
continue through the night.
People unable to run may volunteer
for the support team. It sets up base
camp each afternoon. Base camp is
a place where relay runners/walkers
can eat, shower, and rest until their
next shift on the run.
Supporters/participants can run or
walk to represent a tribal elder or
tribal member who isn't able to run
or walk.

An orientation meeting is
scheduled for Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at
the Tribal Community Center in Siletz.
The run begins on Sept. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
at the Siletz Tribal Community Center
and ends on Sept. 20 near Agness, Ore.
For those who make a commitment
to join us, please remember to bring a
sleeping bag, towels, good shoes, plenty
of socks, and personal care items.
The campsite on Sept. 18 will be
at Honey man State Park campground,
south of Florence, Ore., and on Sept. 19
at the group area in Humbug State Park,
near Humbug Mountain, south of Port
Orford, Ore. Maps will be provided.

Association (ICWA) conference in

The deadline for submitting

The conference theme will focus on
“Weaving our Cultures and Commu
nities Together for a Stronger Future.”
The artwork may appear on posters,
pamphlets, or agendas for the confer
ence. The chosen artist will receive a
$100 Fred Meyer gift certificate.
