Youth Premiere Multi-Media Tobacco Prevention Materials
A Walk of Fame-style carpet greeted
those who attended the premiere. The
materials presented were developed
through a $75,000 grant from the
American Legacy Foundation.
Brett Hodges, Rhiannon Hamel, Apples Lane, Nellie Carey, Corey Hodges, Saul Jurado, Richard Simmons, Shane
Brown, and Robbie Williams (behind Shane) accept their “Oscars” at the premiere of the “Smoking is a Colorful
Addiction ” video, poster, brochure, and Web site. These youth are members of S.T.Y.L.E. - Siletz Tribal Youth Living
Empowered. DeAnna Pearl, project coordinator; Sonya Moody-Jurado, Education specialist in Salem; and Miranda
Strong, Community Health advocate in Eugene also helped with the project.
Siletz Tribe Invites You to Pow-Wow
The Confederated Tribes of Siletz
Indians of Oregon will hold its annual
Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow on Aug. 8-10
in Siletz, Ore.
The crowning of the 2003-2004
Siletz Royalty kicks off the event
on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m., followed by the
first Grand Entry at 7 p.m. Social,
non-competitive dancing in which
everyone can participate will follow.
A parade with a patriotic theme winds
through downtown Siletz at 10 a.m. on
Aug. 9. This hometown parade with
nostalgic small-town atmosphere includes
long-time Tribal Council member Mary
A. “Dolly” Fisher as grand marshal, a
tribute to tribal veterans, tribal royalty,
drummers, dancers, equestrian units,
vintage cars, and floats.
