Harding Sets First Oregon Match
Get ready to rumble on June 13 at
Commotion at the Ocean IV as pro box­
ing returns to Chinook Winds Casino.
Commotion at the Ocean IV will
feature appearances by former
heavyweight champion Larry Holmes,
four-time former world middleweight
champion “Terrible” Terry Norris, and
former world super featherweight
champion Cornelius Bosa Edwards.
In the headlines again will be former
Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding,
competing in her first Oregon match.
The main event pits heavyweight
Orlin Norris (former NABF heavy­
weight champ, NABF and WBA
cruiserweight champ, and IBA super
cruiserweight title holder) against
“Country Boy” Troy Weida (former
MABA heavyweight champ).
The event is presented by promoter
Bob Arum and Top Rank Boxing.
Featured fights include:
Heavyweight Orlin Norris, of
Lubbock, Texas, brother of former
champ Terrible Terry Norris, who
will square off against “Country
Boy” Troy Weida of Kewanee, Ill.,
in a 10-round bout. Norris, 37, has
a record of 53-8-0-1 and 28 KOs,
compared to 31-year-old Weida’s
record of 41-14-2 with 30 KOs.
Weida, at 6’3”, 230 pounds, and a
75-inch reach, has a height and
reach advantage over the 210-
pound Norris, who has a 70-inch
reach and stands 5’11”.
Heavyweight Eric “Butterbean”
Esch from Jasper, Ala., in a
four-round bout. Butterbean’s
record stands at
64-3-4-2 with
49 KOs. Troy
Roberts from
Vancouver,
Canada, will
take on the King
of the Four
Rounders. He
has a record of 8-9, with seven KOs.
Tonya Harding, bantamweight
from Vancouver, Wash., in a four-
round bout. Her record stands at
2-1. Known for being a scrapper
both personally and professionally,
Harding will face off against Emily
Larry Holmes
Gosa, who hails from Sulligent,
Ala., and will make her pro debut.
Undercard bouts include:
❖ Vic Branson, local favorite from
Willamina, Ore., fighting as a super
middleweight
in a six-
round
bout. His
record is
4-5-1
with two
KOs. His
opponent
Billy Thompson
from Lubbock, Texas, has a
6-2 record with three KOs.
❖ Reggie Davis of Portland, will
square off against Cebien St.
Pierre of Las Vegas in the super
welterweight six-round match.
Davis has a record of 6-1 with three
KOs and Pierre’s record stands at
7-17 with three KOs.
❖ Featherweight Gabriel Flores of
Connell, Wash., vs. James Ramos
of Salem, Ore., in a four-round
bout. Both fighters have records of
0-1 with no KOs.
Former champs Holmes, Norris,
and Edwards will be available for
autographs and photos from 6:30 p.m.
to 7:30 p.m., prior to the fights. Fans
should bring their own cameras.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the
first bout at 7:30 p.m. A no-host bar and
food court will be available. This event
is for ages 21 and over. Tickets are
priced from $35 to $200.
