    LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
Fellow tribal members - My name
is Eva E. Clayton (most of you are
probably familiar with my monthly
articles in our Siletz News). I will be
running for Tribal Council in our
upcoming 2004 tribal elections.
I am a progressive, informed,
professional, with over 30 years in
business. I am familiar with tribal is
sues past, present, and future, on and
off the reservation.
An honorable, productive rela
tionship as your council representative
is one of my priorities. I look forward
to a meeting along the campaign trail.
We have so much to be thankfill for
and a lot of work ahead of us. It will
take all of us working together to
achieve our goals.
Respectfully submitted,
Eva E. Clayton

Note:
To the editor:
On behalf of Oregon Coast
Community College, I want to thank the
Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution
Advisory Board and Siletz Tribal
Council for approving a grant of
$2,500 to the college. The tribe has
provided the necessary funds to
purchase a mannequin for allied
health programs. This educational
equipment will be used to train local
students from Lincoln County in
anatomy and physiology and other
allied health courses.
The timing of this grant was of
great importance to the college,
especially with the large cuts in state
funding for community colleges.
We appreciate the fact that the
Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians
values local educational opportunities
and look forward to offering a more
complete and varied curriculum to serve
area students. With the grant generously
provided by the tribe, the college will
be able to offer more credible training
programs for local students.
The students, faculty, and staff of
Oregon Coast Community College are
grateful to the Siletz Tribal Charitable
Contribution Advisory Board and Siletz
Tribal Council.
Sincerely,
Pat O’Connor, President
Oregon Coast Community College

Council Approves Computer
Purchases for 2003
Because of the success of last year’s computer project, Tribal Council
has allocated funds from the 2002 excess pledge gaming revenues to
purchase computers for tribal member households in the fall of 2003.
Depending on the final purchase price, it’s estimated that another 1,000
computers will be distributed this year. This is the final year that the tribe
will distribute computers.
Applications have been mailed to tribal member households and children
in out-of-home care. If you didn’t receive an application or if you know of
children who reside with non-tribal parents, please call us at 1-800-922-1399,
ext 305, or541-444-8305. We will mail an application out as soon as possible.
Deadline for submission of applications is 4:30 pjn. on July 15,2003.
Applicants must include the application form, verification of their
physical address (i.e. utility bill, property tax statement), and for children
who reside with non-tribal custodial parents, verification that the applicant
has legal custody of the tribal children.
We’ll accept applications from any enrolled tribal member or parents
of enrolled tribal children in non-tribal homes who didn’t receive a computer
last year. Remember, if you or your address was used previously, you’re
ineligible to reapply.
Applications will be accepted in your name as it appears on the tribal
roll. If your name has changed for any reason (marriage, divorce, legal name
change), please forward a copy of that documentation along with your
application. We’ll then change your name on the tribal roll.
Because gaming revenues are used to purchase the computers, the IRS
requires that recipients be taxed for the value of the computers. The value is
determined by the individual purchase price. Computer recipients will be
mailed a 1099-MISC form in January 2004 for use when filing their 2003
taxes. Individuals are responsible for all taxes associated with the computers.
