LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
Council, CTSI, staff, friends,
and family ...
I would like to thank all of you
for the cards and well wishes on
my retirement.
Council, thank you for the beautiful
Pendleton blanket.
Judy Muschamp and Sharon
Edenfield (former bosses) for the beauti
ful Pendleton handbag and clutch purse.
Rose, Brenda Bremner and Judy
Imbler, Lane, Samuel, and Hattie for the

Portland area office staff for the
begonia plant and luncheon.
Connie James for the mug and
other gifts.
Geneva Johnson for the basket of
bath essence and glass rosebud.
Doris Riding In, Kay Steele, Marcie

Craig Whitehead and his staff for
the black hooded sweatshirt.
Janet Dair and George Nagle for the
planter box filled with candy, tea, soup
fixings, and a pottery mug.
Selene Rilatos Lynch for the

I’m ready to stay home and relax).
Nancy McCrary for the beaded pen.
Wazzy, Lori, Brandon, Ami, and
Casee for the flowers.
My birthday was so close to
retirement day that I would like to thank
my children and their families for the
wonderful dinner (they always have
something special) and gifts. A special
thanks to my nieces and their families,
who never forget me on my birthday,
Mother’s Day, and Christmas. Also my
sister, Nancy.
Randy Butler and family for the
Pendleton purse.
Debbie Williams and Violet
Lafferty Moore - thanks for the card
and gifts you have given to me in the
past and present years.
Thank you to the Accounting and
CHS staff for always taking time to help
me arid answer my questions or just
listening to me. Also Judy and Sharon.
I’m so grateful for the Forestry
crew. Even though I always knew you
weren’t a wood-cutting program, you
always made time throughout the year
to cut and deliver wood to the elders.
Thank you so much for your love and
concern for them.
Children with elder parents who
have wood stoves - please get out and
help the Forestry staff when they have
a special wood cutting day. I have
helped in all of them.
Elders, it was my pleasure serving
you. God bless each one of you and all
of the CTSI staff.
Elouise Case
Elders dentalium necklace class -
1 would like to thank Bud Lane for
teaching and doing the leather wrapping
on the necklaces. He also made
matching earrings to go with them. Bud,
1 felt privileged to have you teach us.
Thanks and God bless you.
To the editor:
1 wanted to say congratulations to
my son, Tristan, for getting MVP at the
Clifford Case Memorial All-Indian
Youth Tournament on March 22-23.
You played great, son, and you deserved
the MVP award. Also to Casee and
Zack for all-stars, and Mariah for
hustling, all you fourth-, fifth-, and
sixth-graders for being champions.
I watched all teams play on
Saturday and Sunday. I was glad and
proud to be available to help. The Case
family did a great job and so did the
residents. I had peace inside my heart
To the editor:
Down here on the Oregon Coast,
crab season has come and gone. I have
always hoped that our tribal elders
would have a really good crab feed. I
also heard that there are a lot of tribal
women who have said that they make
the best fry bread in the world. So next
year, the tribe should put on a feed for
our elders.
Now, I understand that there are a
couple of eel men who work for the
tribe. I have a question. Let's say that I,
Royce Strong, do not know anything
about an eel. Now, what I would like
you guys to try to do is: 1) somehow
get some eels; 2) put on a class on how
to do an eel (show what it looks
like, how to gut, does it have bones, can
you cook them - fry, bake, roast,
or microwave).
If you smoke them, what type of
brine, dry, or water, and what spices would
you use? How long would you smoke

to see and feel unity amongst our
tribe that I haven’t seen or felt in a long
time. I think I felt that when I was very
young and my dad was playing softball
- all tribal.
I want to also say thanks to Wazzy
for coaching these kids, especially my
son. That goes along with all my son’s
coaches, his gramp, his uncle, and his
dad. Thank you guys so much. I love
you all for that.
them, hours or days? This way, our tribal
members and I can learn about eels.
What I’m saying is that down on
the Smith River when they are hooking
eels, our tribe should have someone
there and bring some back and show
and teach us. I remember that Tom
Downey was an eel man, now Stan van
de Wetering. So when you ever get
some eels, teach us. This class should
be held at the tribal community center.
One other thought - I know when
people sit on Tribal Council, they really
go through a lot because my father went
through a lot. I know that you cannot
make everybody happy.
As for the tribal chairman, this
person would get it from everywhere.
This reminds me of a Timex watch (can
take a licking and keep on ticking).
This is stated in a good way. Keep your
mind clean.
