Prior to establishing the Advisory Board in 2001, the Siletz Tribe distributed
a percentage of gaming revenues through an ad-hoc committee that awarded
$134,020 to various organizations throughout Oregon.
The next deadline for submitting applications is March 12, 2003.

Trip Program
Spirit Mountain Community
Fund’s $37,500 donation -

expanded to include Benton, Lim
The Oregon Zoo has
its program to pay for school fi
trips to the zoo during the currer
school year. The program, made
possible by the Spirit Mountain
Community Fund (SMCF) grant,
will now pay for buses for low-income
schools in the couties listed above.
Schools qualify by the percentage of
students who rely on the free and/or
reduced-price lunch program.
The grant helps underwrite the
anticipated costs of bus trans
portation to and from the Oregon
Zoo for as many as 9,000 children
and their chaperones.
“With Oregon public schools
facing devastating budget cuts, it’s im
portant that we continue to make these
experiences available to students,” said
Tony Vecchio, zoo director.
The grant will provide public
schools in these eligible counties
with up to three free buses to transport
students to and from the zoo. As a
condition of the grant, the zoo is
making a special effort to serve
schools with more than 50 percent
student eligibility in the free and/or
reduced-price lunch program.
