Yellowstone Recruits for 2003
Youth Conseration Corps Program
Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Suzanne Lewis has announced
that recruiting for the park’s 2003 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program
has begun.
YCC is a summer employment program for young men and women age 15-
18. Through work projects done in the park, YCC provides enrollees with a better
understanding of their environment and management of our natural resources.
The 2003 YCC program will run for eight weeks from June 14 through
Aug. 11 and participants will be required to live on location. Room and board
will be provided at a minimal cost to enrollees. Wages will be set at the federal
minimum wage of $5.15 per hour.

Deadline for consideration for 2003 committees is March 13, 2003
Any tribal member interested in serving on the commission for a three-
year term must fill out the following form and return it to the address below
prior to March 13, 2003, to be considered for the commission. Please send or

The program will consist of a 30-member camp with enrollees selected
nationwide. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by June 14, but must not
turn 19 until after August 11. Applications must be postmarked by March 15,
2003. Selections will be made randomly from all qualifying applicants.
Crews will focus their efforts on projects dealing with rehabilitation of trails
and backcountry areas, campground restoration, and a wide variety of resource
management, maintenance, and research projects. A wide spectrum of
environmental education programs will be offered, as well as an extensive
recreation program.

Let’s Kick It With “Rez Robies”
DreamCatchers has joined forces
with The Northern Navajo Medical
Center Health Promotions Program of
Shiprock, N.M., to produce a health and
fitness two-video set entitled “Rez
Robies” and “Rez Robies for Couch
Potato Skins.”
The project was inspired by the fact
that diabetes has become one of the
most serious threats to the health of
Indian people both on reservations and
in urban settings.
“Rez Robies” is a full-fledged
aerobics video mixing pow-wow
dancing and martial arts with normal
aerobics movements. “Rez Robies for
Couch Potato Skins,” which in
November 2(M) 1 won the Best Public
Service Announcement Award at the
American Indian Film Festival in San
Francisco, is a half-hour comedy
featuring two prominent Native actor/
comedians - Elaine Miles {Northern
Exposure, Smoke Signals) and Drew
