Respectfully, Eva E. Clayton
Our 25 year restoration didn’t just
happen, it began with a dream.
I’m grateful for the courage and
commitment of the many who made
our dreams a reality.

What a journey! One that was given a
destination from ancestral lands.
Determined struggle has given the
children of ancestors an inheritance.

Restoration Pow-Wow
Join the Siletz Feather Dancers at this year’s Restoration celebration.
We as proud descendants have a
responsibility to protect and nurture
our legacy. We are now keepers of the
flame. We need the elasticity to bend
and sway, ride the wind.

Like that of a tree we must sink our
roots deep. Feel mother earth, her
heartbeat warm, comforting.

Be sure to ■
vote on Nov. 5.
Study the candidates and
know where they stand on
Indian issues. Carefully
evaluate how these views and
the candidates’ records can
affect your life and that of
your family and the tribe, then
vote accordingly.
Every vote counts!
It takes strength of family and
community to continue the dream,
giving the soul wings.

Death Benefits Increase
On July 1,2002, the Siletz Tribal Council passed a resolution increasing
death benefits to $6,000 (previously $5,000).
It’s important for every tribal member to fill out a Death Benefit Beneficiary
Designation Form. When a tribal member passes and doesn’t have one on file,
the money left over after funeral expenses are paid remains with the tribe.
Please be sure that your designated beneficiary is age 18
or older. If you don’t have a beneficiary form on file, please call the Enrollment
Department and request one. If you have other questions, please call Loraine
Butler in Enrollment at 541-444-8258 or 1-800-922-1399, ext. 258.
What I find unique about our
community, we have such hands-on
capabilities. We have control over
policies, procedures, checks, and
balances. With funds made available
through economic development we
are enabled to work for the betterment
of tribal descendants.
We need to continue to go forward
with a positive attitude, progressive
plans of action, and secure our future
that started with a journey.
When it’s time for our children to
carry on, (my prayer) make our
children strong with a sense of
• knowledge belong. Let our children’s
spirit ride the winds, remain humble,
respectful of where it began.
The light of a candle awakens a
darkened room. Enlightenment is a
gift we all hold, what we do with it
is up to us as individuals, families,
and community.
