Martin/Ramos Receive Grant for
Masonry Business
Joe Martin and Angela Ramos received a $6,230 small business grant from
the Siletz Business Development Center in late September.
Joe and Angela have started their own business, Martin Masonry, in Salem,
Ore. Services include residential and commercial brick, block, and stone work, as
well as retaining walls. They plan to use the grant for startup costs, equipment
(mixer, saws, ladders, cords, basic tools), and office supplies for their home office,
which Angela will run.
Although the business is based in Salem, Joe and Angela said, “We work
statewide. We’ll go anywhere the work is at.’’

Devenbergs Receive Grant for
Care Home
Rachenda Devenberg has received a $10,000 grant from the Siletz Business
Development Center to help with the family’s adult foster care business, Felina
Gardens, in Salem, Ore.
Rachenda and her husband, Robert, have been in the adult foster care business
for seven years and also operate Devenberg Care Home in Salem. Each facility
has room for five individuals and Rachenda says they’re usually full.
The grant will help the Devenbergs make some modifications to Felina Gardens
and help with furnishings.
“We’re in an industry where care can be really good or really bad,” said
Rachenda. “We’ve had lots of luck and good referrals, and we try to keep up with
our good reputation.”
Clients at both facilities are housed in a home setting with their own rooms.
They must be somewhat independent, needing help in not more than two areas,
such as bathing or walking. Clients can come and go on their own and each facility
has a schedule of activities that may include shopping trips or an outing to the
state fair.
For more information, contact Rachenda or Robert at 503-581-3514.
