true with Run for the Wind III.
This year, the trade show/sale was
moved from the convention center to
an expansive tent in the parking lot
directly across from the casino. Inside,
show bikes were on display, vendors

had a wide variety of bikers’
merchandise for sale, and the local radio
station’s booth had announcers who
went on the air with live reports
promoting the event.
The low reverberating rumble of
street bikes, show bikes, and custom
bikes could be heard all across town,
mingling with the sounds of regular
traffic and the ocean surf.
The band Crossroads cranked out
classic rock on a raised platform at the
south end of the casino throughout the
weekend. It also provided music one
night for a free concert and dance in
the convention center for those not
attending the Steppenwolf concert.
There wasn’t a dry eye at the
rededication of the Veteran’s Memorial.
The ceremony opened with Siletz Tribal
veterans and members of the Siletz
VFW, who comprised an Honor Guard
that marched through the fog in single
file. The only sound came from the bells
worn by Geronimo Warren as he led the
procession carrying the eagle staff.
Tribal member Dan Lundy offered
an opening prayer, followed by a song
from Bud Lane, who accompanied
himself on a hand drum. Marketing
Director Don Kennedy welcomed
everyone to the rededication and
Chuck, a member of the Oregon
Veteran’s Motorcycle Association, said
a few words of remembrance for those
who have gone before.
Everyone was delighted that tribal
member Dub Bellinger offered a few
words and played a recorded song to
honor his fallen brothers. The solemn,
dignified, and emotional ceremony
touched the hearts of us all.
