Siletz Tribal Youth Take Raft Trip
In June, the first
official summer youth
raft trip took place on
the McKenzie River.
Four tribal members
and two staff members
from the Eugene area
office participated in
making this trip a
success. Our river
guides were George
Nagel, Siletz Clinic
mental health coun
selor, and Robert
Kentta, cultural re
sources director, also
from Siletz.
We were very
proud of the way the
youth pitched in to get
the rafts ready and

learn about navigating
the river. The trip took approximately three hours - with a couple of “white water”
areas, a relaxing picnic lunch on the riverbank, and breathtaking scenery typical
of great Northwest rivers.
Rumor has it that our “annual” river trip will change to a “monthly” river trip,
so watch for news about upcoming events. And the youth have officially requested
more rapids!
We want to express our gratitude to George and Robert for coming to the
Eugene area and providing wonderful models for our youth. We’re sure the young
people learned about themselves, as well as the river.
