erry McDowell (c), Portland area alcohol and drug counselor, left at the end
of May to become the director of the alcohol and drug program for the
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. He’s joined at the
Portland area community potluck by Doris Riding In (I), Pauline Montana,
and Toni Matt. Please see Terry’s letter on page 2.
Court order and opinion for two consolidated election matters. The
decision of the court affirmed the election of February*2002.
The Lincoln County Bar, Siletz Tribal Court, Ouderkirk & Hollen, Oregon
Legal Aid Services, and the OSB Indian Law Section co-sponsored a
continuing CLE lunch series on Indian law that was organized by Diane
Henkels, associate attorney with Ouderkirk & Hollen.
In one session, the Honorable Chief Judge Calvin Gantenbein and Judge
Edmund Clay Goodman, from CTSI’s Tribal Court, presented a panel on
Siletz Tribal Court, judicial ethics, and related topics.
In another session. Lea Ann Easton, director of the Native American
Program at Oregon Legal Services and author of the 2000 OSB Juvenile Law
Supplement Chapter Preliminary Hearing and Shelter Care, and Linda Gast,
regional director of Lincoln County’s Oregon Legal Services, presented
information on Indian family law.
