    TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS
Circle of Wisdom 2002
by Kathryn Dick
The Circle of Wisdom Elders Gathering was held at Chinook Winds Casino
on April 9, with 267 elders attending. Everything went well and we all had a
great time.
Andrew Joseph, our Portland area representative for the National Indian
Council on Aging, spoke about the changes taking place nationally with the
Council on Aging. Our own elder, Walt
Klamath, was the master of ceremonies
and did a wonderful job. I appreciate his
willingness to be the emcee.
We all enjoyed the stories and jokes
he shared. Our elders gave gifts to each
elder who attended and the Siletz
Community Health Clinic provided
carnations for all the women to promote
the Women’s Health Program.
Lisa Taylor, a nurse practitioner
from the clinic, shared several “Health
Tips to Remember.” Connie Delisio and
Jodie Greene, also from the clinic, were
on hand to do blood pressures and
blood sugars.

We had plenty of entertainment,
including Shannon Rackowski and four of her students from Siletz who hula
danced for us. It was great fun and they got some men from the audience to join
in. Esther Stutzman told a story and then a great band from Newport, The Bartow
Band, performed during dinner and until 9 p.m. The band played a wide variety
of music and we even had some dancers.
A special thanks to all committee members for all the planning and hard
work that went into making this a successful gathering and for all the gifts that
were made, purchased, and donated. The centerpieces and claypot dolls were
beautiful, and the food and service were great.

Holmes enjoy the elders gathering. Below: Shannon Rackowski (I) leads hula
students Karen Bell (c) and Sara Bell (r) and others in hula dances.
