    LEITERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
I salute the tribal members who
made it a point to come to the Special
General Council meeting on April 6. It
was one of the most positive meetings
that I have attended. I know that what
was presented and what was stated by
members was done with honesty and
respect. The outcome of those things
presented is in doubt and yet I know
that the Tribal Council has been
working for a long time to bring these
goals to fruition.
With all the negative that has been
put forth in Siletz News and at other
recent General Council meetings, it was
refreshing to see us honor each other
with timely, respectful remarks. That
meeting was how all such meetings in
the future should be conducted.
We all have heartfelt disagree
ments, suggestions, and complaints,
and they are best resolved when they
are shared in an atmosphere of peaceful
respect. I hope that in the future, the
General Council meetings can be as
well attended.
I know that it is the desire of the
Tribal Council, from the chairperson on
down, to have as many tribal members
involved in each meeting as possible.
It is only then that true progress can be
made, with the least amount of
disappointment. When all you hear is
rumor and innuendo, the truth is
sometimes obscured. By attending the
meetings, you get the full picture of
what is taking place.
I am very proud to have the
committed Tribal Council that we have.

O
Siletz News - □
I look forward to the challenges that
will come before our tribe. I know that
I can trust the entire council to work
on our behalf. It was apparent to all who
attended that we have a forward
thinking, progressive council that is
truly seeking to do the best by all of
our members.
Thank you, Tribal Council, and
members for the unforgettable General
Council meeting.
Peace is in the sharing of soul, let’s
continue sharing.

To the editor:
Greetings, I hope and pray that this
letter finds these people in good spirits
and good health. My name is Perry
“Red Stone” Boyer. I am currently the
elected Chief of the group and circle of
incarcerated brothers here in prison.
I am writing to you today in request
for any help that you can give to us,
traditional or spiritually. I pray that
sometime in your travels that you might
be able to visit us here at the institution.
There are so many brothers here who
don’t know the ways and the teachers
here are quite limited.
To the editor:
First, I would like to thank the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. They
donated $2,000 to the Siletz Jr. League this year. The money was used to buy
badly needed new uniforms. We were able to buy matching tops and bottoms for
our three boy teams and our three girl teams.
Second, I would like to thank our sponsors: CTSI, Siletz Road House,
Wilkison Video, Breon's Logging, Noel’s Market, and Pepsi-Cola.
Third, I would like to thank my coaches, referees, and gym helpers: Noel’s
Market coaches Kenny Paul and Josh Szaroletta; Road House coaches Wazzy
Case and Leon Metcalf; Pepsi coach Lane Lewis; Breon’s Logging coaches Vai
and Larry Hibdon; Wilkison Video coach John Lancaster; and a special thanks
to long-time coach of CTSI, Dave Mooney (you will be missed, Dave, but enjoy
the steelhead fishing).
Referees Lynette Hibdon, Jimmy Williams, Kenny Paul, John Lancaster,
Dave Mooney, Misty Kosydar, Larry Hibdon, Rachel Warfield, and Jaylin
Wilson. And gym helpers Kendra Lancaster, Amanda Vanhoorbeke, Sarah
Ruddiman, Amy Lancaster, and Kayla Chappel. Thanks for making the season
work so smoothly.
Thank you; I appreciate your support.
Willie Worman, Siletz Jr. League Basketball President

I will enclose a list of events (see
page 12) that will explain to you what
we practice and just what we try to
maintain. I am hoping that we could
be blessed by the Creator, the presence
of drum groups and or dancers, who
would come and share their medicine
with the circle here.
Just being Native is a struggle and
now with this added environment,
things somewhat more difficult. As you
are aware, we must maintain to be
virtuous in our lives and of the most
important virtue is generosity.
I hope that you hear this cry for help
with our ways and our walks. There are
so many Nations here that all ways of
truth of spiritual and traditional ways
are very much welcomed.
So at this time I will ask that the
Creator give you peace and strength in
all your walks.
Sincerely,
Perry “Red Stone” Boyer, Chief
