LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
From the family of Janice Lane -
We would like to say a heartfelt thank
you to all who helped us through this
difficult time. Thanks go out to all who
cooked, cleaned, and bought groceries
for us. It was very much appreciated
and never went unnoticed. Your support
and kindness will never be forgotten.

To the editor:
As I follow the governor’s race,
Beverly Stein continues to step out in
fron^of all the candidates on the issues
important to me as an Oregonian. She
understands the potential that an
efficient state government can achieve
by supporting all of Oregon’s industries
- as well as encouraging the
development of new ones.
This was demonstrated on Feb. 1,
when Stein brought together 13
business leaders from diverse areas of
the economy and the state for her “Get
Oregon Working Again Roundtable.”
While other candidates get their ideas
from books and polls, Beverly Stein
goes right to the people operating
businesses every day.
Stein will utilize all of her abilities
and resources to improve educational
programs, expand infrastructure
statewide, and promote the quality of
life enjoyed throughout our state. Join
me in voting for Beverly Stein, clearly
Oregon’s best choice for governor!

To the editor:
Thank you to everyone who helped
our family after we lost our home and
all possessions to a fire on Feb. 12,
2002. Special thanks to the Whitebears
and Butlers for their generosity; and to
Mona Fisher, Katy Kaady, Nick
Sixkiller, and Sonya Moody-Jurado.
We are deeply grateful for the
assistance, donations, and gifts.

To the editor: '
Reggie Sr. and I would like to
express our greatest thank you to those
who extended such great kindness to
our son and his wife, Reggie and Shelly
Butler, over the loss of their loved son,
Jonathan, the oldest of their triplets.
Words cannot express the
thoughtfulness that went toward Reggie
and Shelly after bringing their triplets
home: the many people who helped,
such as supplying meals the first month
that the babies were home and those
who came into the home and helped
with the care of the babies; the gifts
that were given; and the tribal elders
who showered our babies with gifts.
As a family, we had another loss,
Reg Sr.’s eldest brother, Nat. Thank you
for the many words and show of love
we received as a family.

To the editor:
This is an open letter of thanks to the tribe, which has extended to me “out of
area” benefits that will cover some dental work that I need to have done. Although
it took a little while to happen, the wait was worth it.
I would also like to say that although I try to keep up with the affairs of the
tribe, it is often difficult as I live out of the area. However, it seems to me that
somebody is doing something right and that is what this letter is about. I realize
that there are many dissatisfactions within the tribe, but this letter is from someone
who is happy about something! So please, keep up the good work!
One more thing -1 live in the Los Angeles area and would like to correspond
with any tribal members who would be interested. My e-mail is
nikldan@hotmail.com or you can write to me at 2448 Beachwood Dr.,
Los Angeles, CA 90068.
Sincerely,
Nick Daniels
To the editor:
I would like to thank all the tribal
members who supported me at the last
Tribal Council election. As you most
likely already know, according to the
posted results, I needed one vote to tie
and two to win.
I have had numerous calls from
people who said they were sorry that
they did not vote for me. They got busy
with other things and let it slip their
minds. I encourage everyone to take a
few minutes to vote and send in your
ballots. Call the Election Board and get
a signature card if you are not eligible.
A court hearing took place on
March 13 because of the discrepancies
of the count in the ballots and a few
other things that are questionable with
this election.
I have requested that a copy of the
letter that was posted on the window
of the administration building in Siletz
about a week after the election be
printed in the newsletter (see page 9). I
would like all tribal members to read it.
This letter states that there was a
mix-up in the number of mailed-in
ballots. The number was changed
sometime after the counting of the
ballots started. This information was
not told to the tribal members until after
the election was certified. Why?
We have requested numerous times
that the elections be given to
professionals. This would assure all
tribal members that a fair and impartial
election is being held.
I encourage all tribal members to
pay attention to what is going on in our
tribe. It affects all tribal members. The
only way to make changes is to vote.
Remember, your one vote counts.
Thank you,
Loraine Y. Butler
