Clark W. Martin - 1931-2002
A loving husband first and a terrific
father second has left us and we will
miss him dearly. He died with courage
and humor after finding that he had
cancer and there was no cure. He was
born on Jan. 26, 1931, and died on
Feb. 16, 2002.
As a husband, he gave our mother
support, companionship, humor,
romance, and most of all, love. He was
there for her as she was for him. And
after almost 50 years of marriage, they
were soul mates. Still sharing the same
bed and stopping in the middle of the
day to give each other a hug made their
days together very special. Their humor
together was wonderful, with laughter
filling the room. He will never be
replaced; Mom loves you, Dad.
There are five of us and as a father,
he was terrific. He was caring and
shared in the responsibility of raising
his kids during a time when this was
left up to the mother. His love for us
was deep and he wanted the best for all
of us. We will remember the times he
spent with us through the years with a
smile and a chuckle.
He would always have all of us or
half of us running to the doctor to get
our shots, taking us on walks with a
pace rivaling a speed walker, with a stair
step of kids behind him. We would go
for rides to see the Christmas lights,
only to come home and find that Santa
had visited.

He would take his family to the
beach and on picnics, and I found out
later that he didn’t like picnics. He
made us paper doll furniture, played
games with us, and he made us laugh.
He taught us well and gave us humor,
strength, determination, and a sense
of family.
The man, our father, our mother’s
soul mate, loved to play solitaire, watch
movies, play music, and when he was
younger, play guitar and sing songs. He
loved flowers of all kinds and doing
crossword puzzles.
He loved coffee and a good
cigarette. All of these things made our
dad, our mom’s soul mate, the special
person he was. We will miss him - but
we will have him with us forever in our
hearts and memories. We love you,
Dad, and peace be with you!

Girls All Play
Like MVPs

On March 10, 2002, Siletz girls
Kallee Abbas, Amy Lancaster, Kassie
Mooney, Makayla Most, Chyann
Payne, Pippi Sanchez, Beth Stam,
Denaee Towner, Kelsey Warren, and
Kyla Weaver played a four-game
round-robin tournament with two other
Toledo teams.
Siletz had the speed and the talent
to win all four games, but the height

advantage went to Dr. Parson’s Toledo
team, which beat Siletz in the second and fourth games.
Every girl who played this weekend deserves to be MVP. These girls played
their hearts out and after all was said and done, they came away smiling! That’s
what makes a great player, someone who can keep a good attitude if she’s winning
or losing, and these girls did it.
So, to the Siletz girls all-star team - you’re all winners in our eyes and thanks
for some great basketball. Keep it up!
All of the girls deserve a big hand, but I must mention a few who put up some
great numbers in all of the games. Chyann had 31* points (two 3-point shots),
Beth scored 28* points (one 3-point shot), Denaee had 12* points, and in the third
game, every player made at least one basket! Great job, girls!
After the tournament, a three-point shootout was held and Makayla made
five to top the girls who entered. A two-ball contest also was held and Chyann
and her partners won that event.

The Pow-Wow Committee is now
soliciting fine artwork for this year’s
Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow logo. We’re
looking for original work depicting
the tribe’s cultural/traditional aspects
or of any Native American design. The
person who creates the artwork that
is selected will be compensated.

The Siletz Warriors girls basketball team completed an undefeated season
with a 10-0 record. Adrienne Whitaker led the team in scoring average
(13.1), total points (118), rebounds (45), and assists (19), with Raynette
(Scooter) Parks leading in steals (28). Team members include
(back row, I to r) Megan McCoy, Tina Buhr, Katie Bowers, Adrienne
Whitaker, Brittney Payne, Kirsten Pedersen, and Raynette (Scooter) Parks;
(front row, I to r) Kelsey Warren, Chyann Payne, Jasmine Whitehead,
Rachelle Whitaker, Heather Keene, and Denaee Towner.
The team is coached by Fred Rider.
