Get a Second Chance at College
The Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) administers two
scholarship programs that support non-traditional adult students who are beginning
or continuing a college education. The programs are for Oregon residents planning
to attend an Oregon college or university.
m The Ford ReStart Scholarship is for students who have a high school degree
or GED and want to pursue a certificate, associate’s, or bachelor’s degree at
an Oregon college or university. There is no minimum high school or college
GPA requirement. Preference is given to applicants who are 26 years of age
or older. The scholarship does not apply to those who have already earned a
college degree.
The Ford Opportunity Scholarship was created to help single parents (single
head of household, as defined under IRS regulations). Students must be Oregon
residents and attend an accredited, non-profit, public or private, two- or
four-year college or university in Oregon. The student must be working toward
a four-year bachelor’s degree.
Applicants for either scholarship program must:
Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form as soon
as possible after Jan. 1, 2002
Complete an OSAC 2002-2003 scholarship application before March 1,2002
Be eligible under financial aid guidelines (not owing refund on an educational
grant or in default on a student loan)
Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen

The Oregon Student Assistance Commission, recipient of the 2002 National
Scholarship Provider of the Year award, was created by the Oregon Legislature in
1959. OSAC administers a variety of state, federal, and privately funded student
financial aid programs that benefit Oregonians attending institutions of
post-secondary education.
This year, the agency will award $8.5 million to students through privately
funded scholarships and $18 million to students under the Oregon Opportunity
Grant program. In addition, OSAC will guarantee millions of dollars in
student loans from private lenders under the Federal Family Education Loan
Program (FFELP).
Every year, the Oregon Student Assistance Commission helps more than
50,000 Oregon students work toward their educational goals. The agency can be

OHSU Scholarship Info Available^
The Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Oregon Health
Sciences University has compiled information on more than 90 scholarships
for students interested or currently studying in the health and science fields.

The scholarship information is located in the student resources section of the
Web site. Each scholarship has been categorized by field of study: medicine,
dentistry, nursing, biomedical, allied health, public health, and engineering.
