Elders Attend
Pendleton
Round-Up

The trip to the Pendleton Round-
Up was a great success. Forty-eight
elders attended the three-day trip.
Taking four vans, we loaded up and
left town, some of us at 6 a.m. The vans
from the various areas met at Mall 205
in Portland and traveled together to
Hermiston. We stayed at the Oxford Inn.
Our rooms were very nice and they were
air-conditioned. It was very hot!
Wednesday was Senior Day at the
Round-Up. We attended the rodeo and
then went to a barbecue in the park by
the rodeo grounds. That evening, we
attended the Happy Canyon Pageant.
Everybody had a good time and from
what I have heard, the most popular
event was the Indian Horse Races. There
was a lot to see and do during our time
at the rodeo. We arrived back in our
homes Thursday evening.

Elders Should Participate in Survey
In March 2002, the tribe will renew its Title VI grant through the Administration
on Aging, Department of Human Services. The Administration on Aging is
requiring all tribes that receive Title VI funding to submit surveys completed by
their tribal elder population. The survey is entitled “Identifying Our Needs: A
Survey of Elders.”
The Siletz Tribe has chosen to have the elders’ coordinators and community
health advocates bring the survey to the homes of all elders who reside within
the 11-county service area. The survey will be mailed in the near future to all elders
outside the service area. All surveys must be completed and returned by
Jan. 31, 2002.
This survey also will gather the additional information necessary to develop a
home community-based long-term care facility and determine the level of care
this home will need to provide.
It’s very important that you as a tribal elder identify your individual needs
and let your voice be heard.
