7 pounds, 10 ounces, and 20-1/2 inches
long. He was born at Pacific
Communities Hospital in Newport, Ore.

Ore.; Paul Mason of Lincoln City, Ore.;
the late Willard (Babe) Metcalf; and
Loraine Butler of Siletz, Ore. Welcome,

Eagle’s Cries

My heart once caressing,
The sky so high.
For a second I thought,
1 could even fly.
Back on two feet,
Isn’t life so sweet.
This way which I fly,
No longer so high,
For the distant sounds,
Of an Eagle’s Cry.
These distant whimpers,
On this night,
Is all it took,
To stop the flight.
With these distant cries,
Deep in flight,
1 fear for another elder’s plight.
My heart weeps with pain,
Perhaps this fate,
Was not in vain,
At least it will help,
To ease the pain.
With our elders crossing over,
Day by day,
The time has now come,
To learn their ways,
And help create,
Better days.
The first day,
Of the rest of our lives.
And I heard the distant sounds,

Congratulations are in order for our
son, Matthew Jonathan Pond, grandson
of Geraldine “Duke” Ashley (Douthit),
who graduated in March 2001 from Basic
Training with the U.S. Air Force. Early
next year, Matt will be stationed overseas
at Okinawa AFB, where he’ll specialize
in planes used in air rescue missions.

as he celebrated his birthday in May
while stationed at Keesler AFB in
Biloxi, Miss. Good luck and best
