Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center is hosting Run for the Wind II
on Aug. 24-26.
Saddle up and cruise to the coast for the summer’s coolest bike event, Run for
the Wind II, a benefit for the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association. Help
Oregon’s
veteran
community while enjoying three days
of fun, excitement, and
good times ... plus a chance to
win
an
Indian
motorcycle. Blackjack, poker,
and slot tournaments,
great food, hot concerts, a
motorcycle show with all
the latest gear, and a
poker run are just part
of the fun!
Bikes, bikes, and
more bikes. Bikes fit
for “Easy Rider,’’ a
lovely lady, the
weekend warrior, or a
couple just cruisin’
around will be on
display outside the
casino, with judging and prizes. A trade show in the convention center will feature
approximately 80 booths. It will begin at noon on Aug. 24 and run through the weekend.
A blackjack tournament on Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. and a slot tournament on Aug. 25,
also at 5 p.m., add a touch of excitement to the weekend. Also, a poker run is planned
for Aug. 24 at 10:30 a.m. and a poker tournament on Aug. 26 begins at 1 p.m.
A rededication of the American Veterans/Desert Storm Memorial located
directly outside of the casino will take place on Aug. 26 at 10 a.m.
At 6 p.m. on Aug. 26, a drawing will be held for an Indian “Chief’ 2000
motorcycle. Entry forms are available now at the Winner’s Circle.
Get movin’ with the Edgar Winter Band in concert on Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. and
on Aug. 25 at 7 and 10 p.m. (see story below).
It makes no difference whether you own your own bike or are a casual observer
when it comes to the special “package deals” offered for the weekend.

Derek Simmons, who recently was
promoted from casino houseman to
banquet captain. Derek has worked at
Chinook Winds Casino since April
1996, starting out in the “tent” or
temporary structure.
Derek initially was hired as a
change person. Later, he became a key
person and finally was hired on as
houseman
in
the
Banquets
Department, where he has worked for
the past three years setting up

that time, she developed an internal
marketing/business plan, worked
closely with the casino’s advertising
agency, and organized promotions and
special events.
When asked why she wanted to
move to Lincoln City, Tara said, “I was
bom and raised in the Dakotas, and I
have had the desire to live and work
outside of the Midwest. After visiting
Edgar Winter Band to Perform
Take a “Free Ride” when the Edgar Winter Band performs at Chinook Winds
Casino & Convention Center on Aug. 24 and 25.
Versed in a wide variety of instruments and musical styles, Winter has managed
to defy stereotypes. Bom and raised in Beaumont, Texas, in 1946, the blues-rock
musician grew up singing in church and in a barbershop quartet, and played
saxophone at an early age.
As a teen-ager, he began playing in an R&B group with his older brother,
Johnny Winter, who soon became a respected blues-rock guitarist. Through his
association with his brother, Edgar Winter signed a deal with Epic Records in
1970. He recorded an acclaimed solo debut, “Entrance,” followed by two hit albums
featuring Edgar Winter backed by a horn-based group called White Trash.
In late 1972, he formed the Edgar Winter group, with whom he recorded
1973’s “They Only Come Out At Night.” This contained the No. 1 synth-driven
single “Frankenstein” and the Top 20 hit “Free Ride,” selling more than
2 million copies.
Edgar Winter continued recording and touring for years to come, working
with both his older brother and guitar wizard Rich Derringer, as well as a reunited
version of White Trash. He released his most recent album, “The Real Deal,” on
Intersound in 1996. It features cameos by Derringer, Leon Russell, and Jermaine
Jackson, among others.
Currently residing in the LA area, Edgar Winter has spent much of the last
decade penning movie scores. He also expanded his creative talents with his acting
debut in Paramount’s “Netherworld” as well as “The Cape” for MTM.
Concert time is 8 p.m. on Aug. 24, and 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Aug. 25, with
tickets priced at $10 and $15, depending on seat location.

Lincoln City, I realized this was the
match I was looking for. Even during

my first trip, I could see that the
Tara Binek has been hired as the
Direct Mail/Database manager for
Chinook Winds Casino & Convention
Center, effective June 8, 2001. She
relocated to Lincoln City from her home
state of North Dakota.
Tara earned her bachelor’s degree
in marketing from Northern State
University in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1993.
For the past seven-and-one-half years,
she worked at a Native American casino
on the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s
reservation in North Dakota.
Tara began her gaming experience
in a guest services role, developing the
casino’s club card program, executing
gaming promotions/special events, and
acting as a liaison between management
and guests. She was promoted to
Marketing manager in 1999. During
relationship between Lincoln City
and Chinook Winds Casino was a
positive one.
“Chinook Winds is a beautiful
property, with an ideal setting. Plus the
chance to live on the West Coast makes
it all the more appealing. I have found
Lincoln City to be a friendly coastal
