Siletz Boys Take Second at Chemawa

The Siletz Boys All-Indian basketball team went to McKay High School in
Salem, Ore., for the Second Annual All-Indian High School Basketball
Tournament on May 5. They came back with a second-place trophy after playing
five games.
The fist game was against Grand Ronde, which scored 34 to Siletz 55. The
second game was Colville 44 to Siletz 80, and the third game was Chemawa 47
to Siletz 66. Going into the championship game, Siletz would have to get beaten
twice and its opponent would be Chemawa, which scored 55 to Siletz 49. The
score of the final game was Chemawa 67 to Siletz 49.
We would like to thank the Siletz Community Health Clinic for sponsoring
us, the Siletz Resident Organization for motel rooms and meal money, Prevention
or transportation, and all the parents for their support.
Team members include Marcus Butler, Brandon Case, Buddy Lane, Jason
Towell, Joe Lane, Chris Van Daam, and Chris Olson. Awards went to Buddy
-ane, Mr. Hustle; Brandon Case, All-Star; and Marcus Butler, MVP. The team
won a second-place trophy and sweatshirts.
Tribal Students Make Honor Rolls
Congratulations to the following students for making the Equal Opportunity
Program (EOP) or college honor roll during the 2000-2001 school year:
Oregon State University
Ryan Fernandez, freshman, liberal arts, honor roll
James Cedarstrom, freshman, general studies, EOP honor roll
Kristen Downey, freshman, business, honor roll and EOP honor roll
Alissa Lane,junior, pre-health promotion, honor roll
Chad McCormick, junior, business management and accounting, EOP honor roll
Ryan McCormick, graduate student, civil engineering, EOP honor roll
Clifford was bom on Aug. 29,1934,
in Toppenish, Wash., to Clifford Calvin
Case and Florence Marie Underwood-
Case. He died at his home on April 23,
2001, at 66 years of age. He was a
member of the Confederated Tribes of
Siletz Indians.
He passed on to be with the Lord
and his other family members: his
father; his mother; sons, Erin Stewart
Casé and Ivan (Case) Miller;
daughter, Venetia Case; and grandson,
Joshua Parr.
He leaves behind his brother,
Wayne Case Sr., of Siletz, Ore.; sister,
LaVetta Cunningham of Yakima, Wash.;
his wife of 11 years, Trina Case;
daughters, Ardella Parr and Shannon
Case of Siletz, Jenett Case of Nisqually,
Wash., and Pamela Case of Tacoma,
Wash.; sons, Reginald Case, Clifford
Case Jr., LeRoy Case and Levi Case of
Siletz, and William Case-Cunningham
of Yakima, Wash. He also leaves behind
numerous grandchildren, great­
grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He loved his family and sports, and
also was passionate about tribal politics.
A memorial service was held on
April 30, 2001, at the Siletz Tribal
Community Center in Siletz. A potluck
dinner was held immediately following
the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that donations be made to the
Siletz Community Boosters.
Hibdon Joins
National Honor
Society
Lynette Hibdon, a 16-year-old
sophomore at Toledo High School, has
been inducted into the National Honor
Society. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA,
along with being active on the
volleyball, basketball, and softball
teams at THS.
She volunteers as a basketball
coach for a spring league tournament
team. She is the vice president of the
Native American club, TNASU, at THS
and participates in pow-wows as a jingle
and fancy dancer.
