LETTERS TO THE EDITOR/TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS
To the editor:
My name is Misty Moceikis,
roll #1555. I’ve found myself in a
difficult situation.
I turned in an application for
temporary work in the Eugene office. I
received a call from personnel telling me
if I wanted the temp TSA job, I could
have the job after I passed a UA. I received
a call on Feb. 16, 2001, from personnel
saying I passed my UA. I was told I could
start work on Feb. 20 at 8 a. m.
I showed up Tuesday the 20th at
8 a.m. I was told there was some holdup
on starting work. I was told that the
holdup was I wouldn’t have a supervisor
in the office. My understanding was that
Bob Jensen was the supervisor for the
TS As in all four offices. I didn’t realize
that it excluded the Eugene TSA.
I was informed I couldn’t do
temporary work while on work
experience (WEX). Even though this is
not a policy of the federal regulations.
Administration came up with
another excuse for me not getting the
job. They said since I was on WEX,
Laurie Brown-Godfrey couldn’t be my
supervisor for WEX and the temp job.
Laurie informed them that she isn’t my
supervisor for WEX. I have a work-site
supervisor who supervises me who also
signs my timesheet. Laurie verifies my
work hours by signing the timesheet.
This was still unacceptable to
administration.
I asked if another person in the
Eugene office could be my supervisor.
Administration said the only other person
who could supervise me would be Lou
Carey (Eugene office supervisor), my
mother; that wouldn’t work because we’re
family. We asked if anyone else could be
my supervisor, as there is a program
director in the Eugene office. They said
no. This is a viable option through the
personnel manual.
I talked to personnel on Feb. 23 and
asked if I went off WEX, would I be
able to do the TSA temporary job. They
said yes.
I have memos from administration
stating the conflict was that I was on
WEX. Now administration has changed
their minds about letting me have the
job after I told them I was off WEX. I
believe administration has made this a
personal issue. The way I understand
WEX, the program is designed to help
tribal members gain employment. I am
being denied these opportunities.
I meet all the minimum
requirements for the job as reflected in
my work history. With all the obstacles
that I have confronted, I feel the tribe
wouldn’t hire me regardless.
As a tribal member this saddens me. I
have lost faith in the administration. I would
appreciate any comments or support E-mail

Sincerely,
Misty Moceikis

More questions to tribal members
on issues of concern:
particularly interesting:

Pharmacy Program
Our tribe changed its prescription
program and contracted with the Pequot
Pharmaceutical Network in order to
save money. Has this program actually
saved money and at what cost to the
membership? I know of at least two
elders who had to wait over three weeks
for delivery of their prescriptions.
Shouldn’t timely delivery of
prescriptions be required?
Elections
I finally received a copy of the
Election Ordinance three weeks after
this past election, even though I had
requested it on Feb. 5. I urge you to
request a copy as well. Two sections are

And in February 1999, the General

have “electronic” elections. A Tribal
Council vote was taken recently to have
“electronic” elections in concurrence
with the membership’s desire for fair
elections. Only two members (Reggie
Butler and Lillie Butler) voted in favor.
Why did the other seven members vote
against the membership’s wishes, while
