Greetings! A draft of the Family
Welfare Code is out and we have
scheduled community meetings in each
area office. The dates are as follows:

Along with this news, we have
provided a word search that deals with
the Tribal Court and Code Project.
Prizes will go to the first place winners
in every area office. All you have to do
is correctly complete the word search
and bring it with you to the “Family
Welfare Code” community meeting
nearest you, where you can claim
your prize.
Copies of the draft code are
available in project binders in the area

We welcome your input!
We also have started studying how
to implement a peacemaker code as part
of Siletz Tribal Court. This would
provide the tribe with a way to resolve
disputes in a more traditional manner.
Rather than involving Tribal
Court, the peacemaking process would
use the parties and the peacemaker(s)
to resolve a disagreement. Many tribes
today are actively working at
revitalizing
their
traditional
peacemaking forums and customary
laws. In the next few months,
this project will report on different
models, seek public input, and draft
materials useful to implementing a
peacemaker court.

The Siletz Tribal Council will host community meetings at all area offices
in April and May to gather input on several items, including:

Tribal member input to determine priorities and needs on which to spend the
2000 excess gaming revenue from Chinook Winds
Tribal member input on how to invest the minor trust accounts
The Tribal Council also will share the results of the tribal member needs
assessment survey.
The community meetings have been scheduled as follows:
