Options for
Wellness
Since September 2000, the
Indian Child Welfare program has
provided the community with an
opportunity to learn and share with
other parents about parenting and
child abuse. The program has
served 14 mothers/grandmothers
and five fathers since its inception.
Every six weeks, participants
are given gifts of gratitude for their
willingness to share and learn, to
end one step of the program and to
begin anew. The following
merchants and community
members have all contributed to
forming a healthy community:

The program is again asking
tribal members for their suggestions
on its continued development. The
planning team is developing a class
schedule. What do you think we
need to know about or want to hear
more about? Monthly meetings are
held at the Siletz Tribal
administration building.
The classes are held at the
Siletz Grange every Thursday
except the first Thursday of the
month. The planning team has yet
to determine the location of the first

6 p.m. with a potluck and continue
until 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to
attend the class.

Women’s
Transitional
Living Center

On Nov. 15,2(XX), we held an
open house at the Transitional
Living Center. This gave members
of the tribal community a chance
to visit and tour the facility and an
opportunity to make suggestions,
plus a chance to eat some good food
and desserts.
Approximately 20 people
signed our guest book. We really
appreciated your good words and
encouragement.
As some of you may know, I
have been selected to attend what
is called FastTrack counselor
training through a program
developed by the Office of Alcohol
and Drug Abuse Programs Center
for Addiction Resources and
Training. This program lasts for one
year and 24 other addictions
counselor trainees are taking the
classes. There are seven different
weeklong classes all over the state,

The first session was in
October on Group Skills for
Alcohol
and Other Drug
Counselors. It was a great learning
experience and I met some great
people in the field of addiction
treatment. The second session,
Counseling
the Culturally
Different, was in December. It was
held at Menucha Lodge and
Conference Center in Corbet, Ore.
In June 2001 when the classes
are done, I will take a state
certification test to become an
addictions counselor.

We are still awaiting the
arrival of our first client. I have sent
admissions packets to all programs
with people in the FastTrack
program. We are still trying to get
the word out that we can offer all
women with addiction problems a
solution and better way of life.
