In Loving Memory of Amos B. Arden
Amos passed away on Sept. 2, 2000,
at age 70 from a brain aneurysm.
He was born on April 7,1930, in Siletz.
His parents were Clayborne and Jessie
Arden. Amos is survived by his wife Robyn
of Vancouver, Wash.; three sons, Kurt of
Gresham, Ore., Clinton of Vancouver,
Wash., and Clayborne of Portland, Ore.
Amos also raised his granddaughter, Sara
Renee Arden, and his stepdaughter,
Jennifer M. Hurd. Amos had 11 grand
children and one great-granddaughter.
Amos was preceded in death by his
son, Steven D., in 1983 and daughter, Lisa
D. Helsper, in 1996. Amos also is survived
by his sister, Connie Hartt, and many nieces
and nephews. In addition to being an uncle,
he was also “brother” to Jessie Davis,
Andrea Kaiser, and Oscar Hatfield.
Amos proudly served in the Marine
Corps for five years and was involved in the
Korean Conflict. Amos still kept in contact
with a couple of his “buddies” from the
Marine Corps.
Amos was a truck driver for Portco
Corporation for 29 years. Over the years,
he received many safety awards. He retired
in May 1995.
After retirement, Amos became
involved in the Ad-Hoc Gaming Committee.
He was largely responsible for developing
and coordinating the day care facility and
arcade for Chinook Winds, all on his own
time and expense. He was very proud of
his work and that he was instrumental in
finding Nicky Peterson, who has managed
both departments very successfully since
Chinook Winds opened.
Amos was proud of his Indian heritage
and being a member of the Siletz Tribe. He
always felt that the tribe should focus on its
youth. Therefore, we have set up the Amos
B. Arden Memorial Fund, a scholarship to

for the generous love and support we have
received in the form of phone calls, cards,
flowers, and donations to his memorial fund.
We also would like to thank those who
attended his memorial service and give
special thanks to the many Siletz elders who
attended - it was greatly appreciated and
a testimony of the many family and friends
whose lives were touched by Amos.
Amos was a kind, loving, and
generous man who enjoyed visiting with
everyone, especially the “ladies!” He was a
wonderful husband and supportive father.
Amos’ warm smile and genuine caring spirit
will be greatly missed by all.
Happy Birthday, Sis. I just want to thank
you for always being the “greatest big sister”
and always being there when I need
someone to talk to and also being there
when my daughter, Bird, needed you. Our
family really loves and thanks you. You are
the greatest!
