Senior Fair Raises Funds for AARP
Members of the Lincoln City business community presented AARP Oregon Chapter
309 in Lincoln City with a check for $1,000 at an August AARP meeting held at the Lincoln
City Community Center. The money was given in appreciation for the chapter’s participation
as hosts and co-sponsors of the first annual Senior Fair held at Chinook Winds Casino
and Convention Center in July.
The two-day Senior Fair, which focused on programs, services, and products for
retired people, drew more than 2,000 visitors to the expansive beach-front conference hall
at Chinook Winds Casino. Visitors were informed, entertained, and generally delighted
with the offerings and personnel of more than 80 booths. Among those who dispensed
information were AARP-VOTE, 55-Alive, and various local businesses that provide special
discounts and benefits to area senior citizens.

2001 :A Glass Float
Odyssey
The glass floats are coming back.
Last year, Lincoln City celebrated the
new millennium by placing 2000 hand-blown
glass floats along the shoreline for coastal
residents and visitors to find. This was so
well received by the public that it’s
happening again this year.
2,001 multi-colored glass spheres will
await discovery on the beaches of Lincoln
City as a part of “2001: A Glass Float
Odyssey.” The officially stamped and
numbered glass creations appear from Oct.
14 through Memorial Day weekend of 2001.
Each float is “one of a kind.” When floats
are found, they become priceless collector’s
items once registered, and a certificate of
authenticity can be obtained through the
Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau.
Two related events will take place at
Chinook Winds Casino in October:
The Odyssey Ball, Oct. 14: Last year
called the Millennium Ball, this is the
second year for this gala event. The
ticket price of $50 per person includes
dinner, live music, dancing, a silent
auction, and a hand-blown glass float to
take home. (If purchased, the floats
alone sell for $50.) Limited seating is
available for this very special evening.
Tickets are available through the Lincoln
City Visitor and Convention Bureau.
A Glass Galore Odyssey, Oct. 21-22:
Northwest glass artists gather to offer
stained, fused, blown, torched, and
glass art of all styles, available for
purchase at this one-of-a-kind glass art
fair. Admission is free. See some of the
most exquisite glass artistry to be found
anywhere. It’s a virtual feast for the eyes.
