LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

“Speed the Light”
This program raises monetary gifts to
help foreign and home missionaries who are
out presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The High Gear Bicycle Tour 2000 was
geared to raise the much-needed funds to
purchase Bibles, flyers, teaching materials,
and business equipment. Nick Brown was
one of the 200 bikers who toured for
this purpose.
We thank each and every one who
helped sponsor Nick. $300 was raised for
the “Speed the Light’ program. This we praise
God for; now the missionaries can spread
the gospel more efficiently and speedily.
Again, thank you in Jesus’ name,
Nick Brown

Vote for Sharon Branstiter
The upcoming election has two
candidates for state representative.
Although both candidates are very ethical
people, I am urging you to vote for
Sharon Branstiter.
Sharon has been a counselor and
worked with our students. She understands
the pressing crisis that exists in education
and the need for better roads for our county.
Sharon better understands the needs of rural

To the editor:
How can the Mashantucket Pequot
tribe possibly be making 20 times the
amount daily that we are? Maybe we should
find out what their secret is?
Until now, I had never heard of a casino
this size only making $100,000 or less in a
24-hour period. Maybe I missed a paper that
explained what’s going on with our finances.
Could somebody please print a list for us
tribal members to see all the different things
we own, like timber, mills, property, etc.? I
think it would help against people’s
accusations.
Most are sitting around, looking around
for the next guy to do something about our
problems or pointing fingers at the Council.
Remember, Council is only as powerful as
we let them get. They represent us, not run
us. Come on, this is not the president or
royalty we’re dealing with here.
All I know is the majority of other tribes
would say handle it the old-fashioned way,
work together as a team or put some better-
qualified people in office who don’t think they
alone are the Confederated Tribes of Siletz.
