Siletz Boys Win All-lndian
Tournament
In loving memory of Kenneth R.
Blacketer, born May 17,1922. He served in
the U.S. Marine Corps, Company K, 3rd Bn.,
9th Marine, from Dec. 11,1941, to Dec. 10,
1945. He fought on the front lines of
Bougainville, and Guam and Iwo Jima. He
received a Purple Heart on Iwo Jima. He
also received the highest medal for
marksmanship, and a Meritorious Service
Award from Major Gen. G.B. Erskine.

Angela Colleen Sondenaa received
her Doctor of Philosophy in Botany degree
from the University of Idaho in May.
After attending school in Siletz and
Toledo, Sondenaa graduated from OSU in
1990 with a bachelor’s of science degree in
wildlife biology. She worked for the U.S.
Forest Service in Grangevill, Idaho, for three
years, returning to graduate school in 1993
at the University of Idaho.
Sondenaa currently is working for the
Nez Perce Tribe as a wildlife biologist site
manager for the Precious Lands wildlife
management area.
She is the daughter of Edwin L.
Sondenaa and Brenda L. Perrin of Siletz.
Misty Moceikis: Congratulations on
making the Dean’s List. We are so very proud

The Siletz boys went to Salem in May
to play in an All-lndian High School
basketball tournament at McKay H.S.
Siletz took first place, earning a
trophy and jackets. Chemawa B took
second, Chemawa A third, Grand Ronde
fourth, and Warm Springs fifth. Warm)t
Springs received the sportsmanship trophy.
The first game was against Warm
Springs; the score was Siletz 69 - Warm
Springs 10. The second game was Siletz
68 - Grand Ronde 52.The championship
game score was Siletz 68 - Chemawa 61.
The roster for Siletz included
Brandon Case, Marcus Butler, Chris
VanDam, Chris Olson, Jason Howell, and
Joe Lane. Chris Olson and Marcus Butler
were picked as MVPs. Marcus Butler also
received the Mr. Hustle award.
We would like to thank the Siletz
Community Health Clinic for sponsoring the
entry fee, Chinook Winds for the T-shirts,
Prevention for motel rooms and meals, Lisa
Brown, and all the parents for their support.
Misty M. Moceikis, Siletz tribal
member and daughter of Lou Carey, has
made the Lane Community College Winter
2000 Vice President’s List. Individuals
recognized here have earned a grade point
average of 3.55 to 3.99 for 12 graded
credit hours.
Isaiah Ben Oakley was bom on March
7, 2000. He is the son of Christopher Ben
and Leanne Oakley. The proud grandparents
are Gerald and Jackie Ben, Elizabeth Vega,
and Chuck Oakley. The great-grandparents
are Ed and Delores Ben. Isaiah’s great-great­
grandparents are Archie and Victoria Ben.

a greeeeat one.
