Tribal Chairman
Delores Pigsley is
interviewed by Joe
DellaValle from KBCH
radio in Lincoln City.
ECONorthwest, cont’d from page 1
Let us now look at some of the major economic and social
findings from the study:
^^Tnbal spending, which includes tribal administration, programs
and the tribe’s gaming enterprise, Chinook Winds, supported
1,493 full-time jobs - nearly one out of every 11 jobs in Lincoln
County.
Regarding tribal programs in 1998, apart from revenues
generated by Chinook Winds,
> $9.4 million was spent by the tribe on health and social services
programs
► $8.5 million for administrative programs
► $4.2 million for housing programs
Since it opened in 1991, the Siletz Health clinic has treated
more than 27,000 patients annually, of whom 57 percent were
non-members whose health needs were not being met by local
health services.
^^Chinook Winds employees who live in Lincoln City were paid
nearly $7.1 million in 1998, and their wages were used to make
$5.8 million in consumer purchases.
^^In 1998, Chinook Winds spent on goods and services:
► $19.6 million in Lincoln County
► $11.5 million elsewhere, outside the county
^►Chinook Winds is a major force in the county’s tourism industry
and attracted more than 475,000 extra visits in 1998.
These new visitors to Lincoln City who came because of
Chinook Winds spent about $10 million at city businesses
outside the casino.
^Lincoln City’s economy was $11.6 million stronger in 1998
because of Chinook Winds.
^The government of Lincoln City had a revenue benefit of
$675,055 in fiscal 1998/1999.
^►without Chinook Winds, ECONorthwest found:
► There would be 1,173 fewer jobs in Lincoln County
► Paychecks totaling $23 million would disappear from
Lincoln County
► Lincoln City would have 533 few residents and 11.8 percent
lower property values
(See ECONorthwest on page 22)
