    LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
I wish to thank all family and
friends who work in Administration with
our daughter, Beverly Youngman;
everyone in the Siletz Clinic who sent
cards and prayers; all my friends on the
HIP Committee for the beautiful basket
with a potted plant, balloons and card,
and their concern, love and prayers.
Also to all the employees at
Chinook Winds who work with our sons,
Jim and Randy Austin, for their inquiries
and best wishes.
The Native American church of
Buzz and Anna Berry for their sweats,
songs, and prayers. It has all helped.
My husband, Bill Austin, suffered
a massive stroke on Aug. 20. He came
home on Dec. 22, still slightly paralyzed
on his left side.
I’d like to thank our families in
Grand Ronde, Alaska, Montana,
California, all those I may have missed.
Keep praying, it truly helps.
My sister, Babe Simmons, stayed
with me for three months and my brother,
Frank Simmons, for all their love and
support. I am truly grateful, also our
friend, Forrest Bahler.
Sincerely,
June R. Austin
To the editor:
Backbiting? Yes. Accusations?
Sure. Hypocrisy? Everywhere.
Why is it that whenever another
election time comes around for our
people, some candidates appear or
reappear with all the answers or
solutions to all of our concerns as
viewed by them? Our councilmembers
must be comprised of people who have
proven a personal dedication to our
people and our future, not those who
would have a myopic view.
Elders, children, and our
business ventures are our future. This
should be our focus. Thank you.

To the editor:
The Siletz Community Boosters
Club held two meetings in January and
the following individuals have agreed to
lead the organization: Lisa Norton,
president; Kent Rilatos, vice president;
Melody Wilkison, secretary; and Willie
Worman, treasurer.
The proposed Siletz Community
Boosters Club will involve those youth
who participate in the athletic programs
in our community. At this time, the
following athletic programs are in
existence in our community: tee-ball,
coach-pitch, girls softball, boys minor
and major league baseball, boys and
girls basketball, and boys football.
An additional item that concerns
many in the community involves our
middle school athletic program.
Unfortunately, the Lincoln County School
District is cutting back funding for school
athletics, and this includes our school.
As such, there has been a recent
request made to the Siletz Tribe to be
included as a beneficiary of their
charitable fund distribution. A request to
tribal housing is also ensuing, as they
have established a fund for
community development.
2
Nevertheless, we as citizens and
parents in this community also must
become involved. The needs of our
children in our school are becoming
greater and available funds to meet
these needs are smaller.
For years, our Little League
athletics have been dependent on
S.E.T., a Toledo-based and Toledo-
oriented organization. Anybody who has
coached in the Siletz Little League
(baseball, football, basketball) knows we
have been left wanting. There is simply
no reason we here in Siletz cannot take
care of our own.
I am sure many of you can recall
that when we had our high school, there
was a very active booster club. This
needs to be reactivated for all our
students. All of you merchants and
organizations can make it happen again.
Any concerned parents are welcome to
participate as well. A booster club can
only survive by the participation of
everyone in the community.
Again, I am asking for your help.
Remember, this is for the children in
our community.
Thank you, I remain
C.W. Case, Sr.
