    CANDIDATES’ STATEMENTS
Dear Tribal Members:
This has been
Please remember to vote!
a very interesting year
for me. In some ways I
am impressed with
You may vote absentee
what is happening
with the tribe, but in
others I am more
by mailing in your ballot
concerned than ever.
There are many good
things in the works but
OR
we have heard that
before. I am very intere
in
some of the projects
that have been started.
I enjoyed working with the Pow-Wow Committee this
year. I do want to continue with that project next year. The
You may vote in person on
people who worked on the committee last year have asked to
serve again and I would welcome the opportunity to work with
them again.

With the coming year, we will see the Salem property
go into trust status. We need to get moving on providing an
economic base that includes more than the casino. I would
like to see the Salem project get off the ground and have
Siletz Tribal Community Center
money coming in from some of our other vacant lands. We
will have two years of Revenue Sharing money to work with;
10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
it is just a matter of finding the right people.
At a couple of the General Council meetings statements
have been made that this council is a “yes" council and that
everything is just passed without discussion or conflict. Please
be assured that that is not the case. Many issues are discussed
at length and the vote may be 9-0 only after the original motion
has been modified. I can also tell you that two of us on council
did not vote yes on the gaming compact. I could not vote yes
because of my concern on tribal sovereignty issues. The
minutes of the meeting just cannot convey all of the discussion
that occurs before a vote is taken.
I would hope that more people would attend the regular
council meetings. For the most part you might be bored out of
your mind, but you will also have firsthand knowledge of what
is going on and will not need to rely on the information
supplied by others who might not have been at the
meetings either.
I hope all of you had a good holiday season and that
no matter how you vote, remember to vote. You should not
complain if you do not participate.
