It’s Virus Season Again!
Shy About Flu Shots?
Viruses are common this time of
year. Here are the big three:
Don’t be! They are safe and
effective against influenza (the true flu).
They cannot give you the flu, although
about 5 percent to 10 percent of people
may feel a little feverish or achy after
the shot.
A flu shot works by teaching your
body to recognize a particular germ. The
flu shot contains treated, dead virus that
can’t infect you. These particles look
enough like the real thing to teach your
body to make antibodies. Then your
body is ready if you come in contact with
the live virus.
Flu viruses change from year to year,
so you need to get a shot every fall. You
can get one later on, but the best
protection is to get it before flu
season starts.
To avoid this nasty disease, get your
flu shot today!

One of the best ways to prevent a cold
or flu is to wash your hands frequently
and keep them away from your eyes,
nose, and mouth. Avoiding crowds
also helps.
Get a flu shot! Save yourself the
misery of the flu.
Penicillin or other antibiotics do not
help viral infections like the flu or colds.

Clinic Hires New
Receptionist
The clinic has a new receptionist,
Casey Bolan, who has been working at
the clinic for the past three months.
Casey is a Siletz Tribal member.
She grew up in Washington with her
family, among the Quinault Indians. She
has lived in the Siletz area for the past
eight years, graduating from Newport
High School in 1994.
Casey says that her job is much
different than what she expected and
she finds it challenging. She likes
working with people and really enjoys
working with her co-workers. When she’s
not working, she enjoys bowling with her
boyfriend of two years, baking
and boating.
Do you know someone
who needs a flu shot but would
have trouble getting to the clinic?
A nurse can come to their
home! Call the clinic for more
