TRIBAL ELECTIONS

Polling took place during the General
Council Meeting on February 6, 1999, on
Government Hill in Siletz. The polls closed at
4:00 p.m. and, shortly thereafter, the General
Council Meeting was closed to enable the
Election Board to count the ballots.
The ballots cast in person and all the
absentee ballots were opened in front of the
general public and counted. Three of the
Election Board Members tallied the votes read
offby the Election Board Director and verified
by the Alternate Board Member. There were
no rejected ballots, and all ballots received
by the close of the polls at 4:00 p.m. were
counted.
Additionally, some Tribal Members
placed a chalk board up and counted along
with the Election Board.
The official results have been posted
at the Tribal Administration Office and Area
Offices. Thank you to everyone for voting!!

After 20 years of service with the
Confederated Tribes of Siletz, long-time staff
member -Wilma Strong- is retiring.
Wilma started with the Tribe in 1979 as
a Community Health Representative (CHR), later
transfering to the Social Services Department
where she’s been ever since. Wilma has helped
many a tribal member in obtaining services,
General Assistance, and employment related
needs.
Wilma’s involvement with the tribe
doesn’t stop with her job. Over the years, Wilma
has volunteered for many tribal committees
including the Health Committee, Pow-Wow
Committee, JOM Parent Committee and Culture
Committee.
I promised Wilma I wouldn’t print a
picture, but anyone who knows Wilma will
remember her warm smile and laugh. Best of
luck, Wilma, in your retirement.
Requests to use the Tribal Community
Center for fund raising purposes during a
General Council meeting must first be
submitted in writing and approved by
Tribal Council. Such requests must be
received well in advance of the activity.
