OCTOBER WORKSHOP ADDS NATIVE WISDOM TO
SCIENTIFIC DATA ON GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE
Voices from Native America brought fresh perspectives to the
body of scientific evidence that suggests humans are disrupting the balance
of the world’s climate. A Native Peoples/Native Homelands Climate
Change Workshop was held from October 28 - Nov. 1 st in Albuquerque,
New Mexico, bringing together traditional Native elders, tribal leaders,
scholars, educators and scientists to document cultural and historical
knowledge of climate change the relationship between indigenous peoples
and Mother Earth. It was one of 20 meetings being held around the
country to examine the potential consequences of climate change on the
U.S. population, environment and economy. The workshop was co
sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration,
American Indian Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico and the City of
Albuquerque For more information, please contact Vema Teller, Project
Director at (505) 242-3351.
