Salem Indian Youth Say “Thanks” to
Chinook Winds Donation Committee
Dear Committee Members'.
“This letter is to thank you for the donation
you made to the Indian youth of the Salem area.
With the money provided to us we were able to
provide two youth activities this summer. We
advertised the events in our community
newsletter and made the activities open to all
tribal youth up to the age of 20 years old.
Our first trip was to the Wave Pool in
Springfield, Oregon. We have taken groups
to the Wave Pool on a couple of occasions and
it is a verv popular trip. We provided a snack
and lunch. We took 25 children to the Wave
Pool.
Our second trip was to see Keiko and stop
at the beach! We took 20 children to see Keiko.
The children were thrilled to see Keiko and we
were lucky enough to see him perform some
tricks with his 60-pound ball! The children all
received a "quilt square ” to color and return
so that they could be added to the "quilt card "
that traveled with Keiko to Iceland. On our
return to Salem we stopped at D River so that
the children could play in the sand (most also
played in the water!)
We solicitea ideas for the events from the
community. The ideas we selected were
generated by area Elders. (We combined funds
from your donation with dollars from our JOM
program in order to cover the cost of the
mileage)................ "
Once again, thank you,
Beverly A Owen
