CHINOOK WINDS It’s Happening at Chinook Winds.... by Teresa Miller Jay Leno Set to Haunt Chinook Winds Casino on Halloween Night The Tonight Show star Jay Leno is set to appear for two shows at Chinook Winds Casino on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31. His live comedy concert replaces Ray Charles who, due to a schedule conflict, had to move his Chinook Winds appearance to April 30 & May 1, 1999. Opening for Leno at both shows will be the Blenders, the popular a cappella singing sensation known for tight rhythms and soulful harmonies. In 1987, Leno was promoted as exclusive guest host for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and was later tapped as his successor when Carson retired in 1992. Since then, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has won two Emmy Awards—for “Outstanding Comedy, Variety or Music Series” and “Outstanding Technical Direction.” Recognized as the Best Political Humorist by Washingtonian magazine, Leno has appeared in hundreds of comedy shows around the United States and traveled to the Middle East to entertain thousands of American military men and women. Despite his television success, Leno remains passionate in his commitment to live performance, doing regular dates in Las Vegas and special appearances throughout the nation. This is his first appearance at Chinook Winds Casino. The Blenders, comprised of four very talented young men from Fargo, North Dakota, will reprise their first Chinook Winds appearance where they wowed audiences last year with their mastery of the unaccompanied human voice. Their gleeful harmonies in performance of war horse favorites from the pop, rock and country repertoire have captivated audiences across the nation.
