TRANSPORTATION POLICY
Recently we have had numerous requests for
transportation assistance. In which event it is felt
that some issues need to be addressed. According
to the “TRANSPORTATION POLICY” which
is included in the “TRIBAL GOVERNMENT
OPERATIONS MANUAL" The following rules
apply;
Purpose: It is the policy of the Siletz Tribe that
individuals and families have the primary
responsibility for their own transportation needs.
Transportation services are not the most efficient
use of Tribal resources. It is the purpose of the
Transportation Policy to more clearly outline when
these services are appropriate.
Authority: The Transportation Policy is part of
the Tribal Government Operations Manual.
Objectives: The objectives of the Transportation
policy are to:
(a.) Educate Tribal members as to the nature and
type of transportation services that are available
through Tribal programs.
Program: Eligible transportation services are
viewed as a shared responsibility among Tribal
employees. However, in the interests of
appropriate program utilization, transports will be
the primary responsibility of the stafT which is most
closely associated with that purpose. For example,
medical transports would normally be transported
by HEALTH STAFF. Elders would be transported
by SOCIAL SERVICE STAFF (Elders Program),
etc. In cases where no clear distinction exits, it
may be appropriate to share the responsibility
among the relevant programs.
Procedures: It is requested that AT LEAST 48
HOURS notice be given for transportation Staff
are instructed to insure that all personal, family
and public transportation resources have been
exhausted prior to transporting. It should be noted
that transportation is contingent upon staff
availability. It is also requested that ATLEAST
24 HOURS notice be given prior to any
cancellation
If you are enrolled in the following components
then you should first request transportation

Please do not directly call the Transport Dispatcher,
as first a “Transportation Request Form" must be
filled out by your representative. At that time your
representative will contact the Transporter
Dispatcher and arrange for your transport.
Also, at this time I would like to address “Bus
Passes”. ONLY SILETZ TRIBAL MEMBERS
ARE ELIGIBLE FOR BUS PASSES. !!!
