one o f our Section 8 participants or applicants indicates that they will
be looking for housing in the Salem area, we send their filé to that
bousing authority. The policies o f the Salem Housing Authority will
apply to them while they are living in the Salem area. For the most
part, these policies are identical to ours, however there may be some
slight differences. I f one o f our participants wishes to move from
Salem to some other location within the service area, their file would
be returned to our office and we would resume the administration o f
it. As w ith any m ove within the Section 8 program , the tenant must
properly terminate w ith their landlord and leave in good standing.
The last o f our Section 8 funding runs out in 1999. Beginning
in September o f this year, we will be using our housing block grant
funds to supplem ent our Section 8 program, which w e intend to
continue to operate according to Section 8 guidelines, as far as I know.
With the transition to the new block grant program, the Housing
Board is taking a careful look at ail o f our policies. This will include
the policies for the Section 8 program. I w ould encourage anyone
with a concern about the Section 8 program to communicate that to
the Housing Autiiority in writing.
