1998 NESIKAILLAHEE POW-WOW The Siletz Pow-Wow has grown into one of the largest and finest pow-wows in the Northwest. This is attributed to many factors, including an active Pow-Wow Committee — Keith Taylor, Kelly Ellis, Devona Christiansen, Theresa Collins, Josh R ilatos- year-round Pow-Wow M anager, Craig W hitehead, Bonnie Petersen, Council Representative, many volunteers and donators, and assistance from other staff members. The Siletz Tribe has dedicated a lot of time and money in improving the pow-wow grounds by adding light, water, showers, electricity, cam ping and parking for participants - dancers, vendors and audience. The Committee serves participants food each evening, and serves a salmon dinner on Sundays for the public. Although the prize money isn’t large, Indian people from all over the U.S. and Canada come to participate in the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow because o f the kind treatment they receive here at Siletz. A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS YEAR’S POW-WOW SUCCESS!!! OUTGOING POW-WOW ROYALTY - Each year the Siletz Pow-W ow Committee selects royalty to represent the Siletz Tribe at a variety o f functions -- parades, other pow -w ow s, public speaking engagements, tribal functions, grand openings, and other related activities. This year’s outgoing royalty are Miss Angeline Bell, Miss Siletz 1997-98; and, Miss Sara Bell, Junior Miss Siletz 1997-98. Sara and Angeline are both veteran pow-wowers, and represented the Siletz Tribe well. Although these girls were selected to represent the tribe, it takes a huge committment on behalf o f the girls’ families to transport them to pow-wows, make regalia and share the expenses of their duties. On behalf o f the Siletz Tribe, Pdw- Wow Committee and members everywhere THANK YOU SARA & ANGELINE for a job well done and thank their parents and families for the support they’ve shown these girls throughout their reign.
